Many Sedarim for Armed Forces Arranged
by JWB at Installations Throughout World

The largest number of American
Jews in uniform since the signing.
of the 1953 Korean truce will cel-
ebrate this Passover in Vietnam
and at more than 600 other over-
seas_ and stateside U.S. military in-
stallations through arrangements
made by the National Jewish Wel-
fare Board. Many of these men be-
came members of the armed
forces since the recent military
build-up resulting from the fight-
ing in Vietnam, and will be spend-
ing their first Passover away from
home.
JWB also is making it possible
for the wives and children of mar-
ried Jewish GIs as well as for men
aboard naval vessels and troop
transports, those assigned to mis-
sile bases and tracking stations
and patients in Veterans Adminis-
tration hospitals in the United
States to observe the eight-day fes-
tival.
Chaplain Alan M. Greenspan, re-
cently assigned to the U.S. military
command in Vietnain, arrived in
Saigon a few weeks before Pass-
over, replacing Chaplain Richard
E. Dryer, who is being trans-
ferred to Germany. Chaplain
Greenspan and the two other Jew-
ish chaplains now serving in Viet-
nam, Chaplain Robert L. Reiner
and Chaplain Harry Z. Schreiner,
will conduct Passover sedarim for
the growing number of Jewish
military personnel in that area.
Through Army cooperation, all
of the Jewish servicemen from II
Corps, including men from the
First Cavalry Division, the 25th In-
fantry Division and the 101st Air-
borne Division, will be brought to
Nha Trang, Vietnam, for Passover
observances in the USO Club. The

Dr. Armin Ziemer, 80-year-old
retired minister, whose novel about
Hosea, "Of Love and Fury," pub-
lished by Pageant Press, was re-
viewed in The Jewish News Feb.

was proselytizing.
Outlining at length the historici-
ty of Hosea's role, stating: "It
should interest you to know that
the background of the princely

Encyclopedia," he adds:
"I can not allow however your
editorial headline and conclu-
sion that my purpose was to
proselytize and that the Christo-
logical approach reduces the effect
of the story. The approach is
purely historical and your infer-
ence can only be drawn from the
last statement in the Epilog where
I cited the historic fact that the
prophets who followed Hosea 'quot-
ed his language and used his in-
comparable figures of speech, even
Jesus Christ,' which is historically
true, no matter what any reader's
opinion would be concerning the
Nazarene. That it conceded any-
thing at all is in itself a bias that
is uncalled for . . . Evidently the
reviewer does not recognize there-
in his own religion. Proselytizing
is nowhere the purpose of the -au-
thor or the book, and it ill becomes
a reviewer with so little to offer
for his charge. Rabbi Solomon
Grayzel of Philadelphia wrote me
the novel is a thrilling story set in
authentic background."

TEL -AVIV — Dr. George Wise,
who resigned the presidency of
Tel AViv University in a dispute
with Dr. Benzion Katz, rector of
the university, returned here Tues-
day from a visit to the United
States. The executive board of the
university, which has already re-
jected his resignation, was to meet
later in an effort to settle the dis-
pute.
Dr. Wise was welcomed at Lydda
Airport by a delegation of 30 stu-
dents, who expressed the hope
that he would remain in his post.
