Pioneer Women Spur Bond Sales

rey Zedek, will feature Jacob
Roden Metropol-
itan Opera Star,
as guest artist,
and Dr. Arieh L.
Plotkin, expert
on Middle East-
ern affairs, as
speaker.
A former offi-
cer in the Intelli-
gence Corps of
Israel's Defense
Forces, Dr. Plot-
kin is a recog-
nized authority
on international
relations, inter
national law and
government. H e
received degrees
from the Hebrew
University a n d Dr. Plotkin
London University and was the
first citizen of Israel to be admit-
ted to Princeton University's Wood-
row Wilson School of Public and
International Affairs. He obtained
his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from
Princeton, where he taught in the
Department of Politics.
Roden has been a star of the
Israel National Opera for a num-
ber of years and since 1948 he has
sung 548 performances with the
opera.
Eric Rosenow and his Contin-
entals will provide the music. A
prize of an Israel Bond has been
contributed by Mrs. Morris L.
Schaver. All 1966 Israel Bond
subscribers present will be eligible.

Dr. Peters Named
Leo M. Franklin
Lecturer for '66

A professor of guidance and
counseling in Wayne State Uni-
versity's college of education, Dr.
Mildred L. Peters, has been named
the Leo M. Franklin Memorial
Professor in Human Relations at
WSU for 1966.
Dr. Peters was singled out for
the honor on the basis of recom-
mendations made by a faculty com-
mittee. It is given annually to a
faculty member who has made an
outstanding contribution to 'the
field of human relations.
A graduate of Ohio State Uni-
versity where she received her
PhD degree, Dr. Peters earned
her BS and MA degrees from
Western Reserve University. She
came to Wayne State in 1945 from
Ohio State, having previously
taught at Kent State University
and in Ohio public schools.
During her 21 years in Detroit
she has gained attention at na-
tional, state and city levels far her
committee service with various
agencies seeking human better-
ment, ranging from President
Johnson's Economic , Opportunity
Act programs to Detroit's United
Community Services.
As Franklin Memorial Profes-
sor, Dr. Peters will be responsible
for planning the annual Leo M.
Franklin Memorial Lectures in
Human Relations, established in
1950 by Temple Beth El in honor
of Dr. Leo M. Franklin, former
Rabbi of the Temple, who died in
1948.

In a large pot saute 1 onion and 1
clove minced garlic in 2 tablespoons
fat. Add the sauce and put the cabbage
rolls in adding 2 large prunes for each
roll. Simmer the mixture for two hours.
Add more water if needed.
Variation: Add 1 lb sauerkraut, wash
same and put in sauce between layers
of cabbage rolls.
Serve with mashed potatoes and
string beans.
Walnut Torte
1/2 cup sifted cake 6 egg yolks
flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon instant 1 teaspoon lemon
coffee
flavoring
• walnuts grated
Grated peel one
1 /2 teaspoon baking
lemon
powder
6 egg whites.
Sift flour, coffee and cocoa together
with baking powder add grated wal-
nuts. Beat until thick 6 yolks, add 1,42
cup sugar and beat until it falls like
ribbons when beater is lifted, add
flavoring and grated lemon peel. Beat
egg whites until frothy add 1/2 cup
sugar by spoonfuls until whites beaten
stiff but not dry. Fold walnut and
flour mixture and egg yolk mixture
into beaten egg whites. Bake in a 9-
inch spring form in a 325 degree oven
about 30 minutes or until torte tests
done. Do not grease mold.
