By EDWARD ZUCKERMAN

Big news at Mumford these past
few weeks has been basketball.
For the first time in its history,
Mumford's Cagers are champions.
Coach Sam Taub has been named
Public School League Coach of the
Year for his great success in bring-
ing the team to the East Side
championship.
Unfortunately, North western
edged out' Mumford for the city
title. Outstanding among the play
ers is Larry Moore, the 6'6" center
who has been named to the All-
City team by both newspapers.

Steve Fishman's ball-handling
and play-making w e r e un-
matched by anybody in sight. As
the state tournament opened last
week, Steve time and again
slipped past the Ford defense as
the Mustangs massacred Ford
86-57 for the district champion-
ship.

In other sports news, for the
second year in a row, swimmer
Stuie Cohen has won all-city hon-
ors in the 50-yard freestyle. Stu
will advance to state competition.
* * *
Trumpeter Steve Sandler has
won a first place in a city-wide
music competition at Cass. Steve,
too, will advance to state competi-
tion.
Marilyn Stocker is Mumford's
DAR Good Citizen. Principal
Helen Delbridge selected Marilyn
for this honor on the basis of lead-
ership, service and citizenship.
Finally, Marcia Stamell was
named Mumford's Betty Crocker
Homemaker of the Year. Marcia
was high scorer on a competitive
examination which tested her
knowledge of sewing, cooking and
budgeting.
