JNF Head, Dies
Max Bressler

CHICAGO - Max Bressler,
president of the Jewish Na-
tional Fund and former presi-
dent of the Zionist Organiza-
tion of America, died Wednes-
day at age 64 in Miami Beach.
The body was flown here for
burial. Services are scheduled
for 11 a.m. today in Shaarey
Tikvah Synagogue.
Mr. Bressler was active in
Israel Bonds and Chicago con-
gregational work as well as
the .JNF. It was under his
leadership that the Kennedy
Forest and Memorial were
planned in Israel. The project
is to be dedicated near Jeru-
salem July 1.
Norman Merkin Killed
in Auto Accident
Norman Merkin, president of
Merkin and Lurie Industries in-
dustrial plating firm on Joy Rd.,
was struck and killed by an auto
while walking along the 1-696 serv-
ice drive, in Southfield Tuesday
night.
Born in Lithuania, Mr. Merkin,
45, was a member of Beth Aaron
Synagogue.
He leaves his wife, Verna; a son,
Ronald; three daughters, Patricia,
Joanne and Michelle; a brother,
Herbert of Los Angeles; and three
sisters, Mrs. Albert (Ruth) Katz-
man, Mrs. Robert (Miriam) Fried-
man and Mrs. Aaron (Pearl) Seid-
man of Los Angeles.

Samuel Yagoda,
Pharmacist Here
Pharmacist Samuel Yagoda, who
operated Sam's Drugs at 14200
Fenkell for 33 years, died last
Friday at age 63.
Mr. Yagoda, 5451 W. Outer Dr.,
a graduate in pharmacy from De-
troit Institute of Technology, was
born in Russia and came to this
country 39 years ago.
He was a member of Congs.
Adas Shalom and Beth Aaron,
Zager-Stone Lodge of Bnai Brith,
Hebrew Benevolent Society, Far-
band, Michigan Pharmaceutical
Association and the Aesculapians.
He also was active in work for
the Jewish Home for the Aged.
Surviving are his wife, Fanny;
two sons, Marvin J. and Bernard;
a daughter, Mrs. Martin (Dorothy)
Silverman; his mother, Rose Gol-
da Yagoda; two brothers, Jack
and Herman; and three sisters,
Mrs. Edward Brady of Phoenix
and Mrs. Edward Goldman and
Mrs. Hyman Lipsen, both of
Detroit.
Harofeh Haivri's
Editor Dies, 69
NEW YORK (JTA)-Dr. Moses
Einhorn, a prominent Jewish phy-
sician and a leading gastroenterolo-
gist; died here Feb. 9 at the age of
69. He was editor and publisher
of Harofe Haivri, the Hebrew
Medical Journal, which he found-
ed in 1927.
Born in Russia, Dr. Einhorn es-
tablished his medical practice in
this country in 1927 and he was
credited with the design of more
than a score of instruments used
in the gastroenterological field. He
was the founder and former presi-
dent of the Ivrith Medical Society
of New York.
Active in a wide variety of proj-
ects for Israeli institutions, Dr.
Einhorn established the Einhorn
Medical Library at the Kaplan
Hospital in Rehovot and the Moses
Einhorn Medical Library of the
Tel Aviv branch of the Israel
Medical Association.
He also took the initiative for
the establishment of a. dental in-
stitute under the auspices of the
Tel Aviv Municipality and Tel
Aviv University. He was a member
of the Alumni Association of the
Herzliah Gymnasium in Tel Aviv.
Lumber Broker Hasnas
Maurice Hasnas, a Detroit lum-
ber broker for 38 years at Able
Lumber Products, died Wednesday
at age 61.
Mr. Hasnas, 25629 Greenfield,
was a member of Oak Park Lodge,
Bnai Brith, and Craftsman Lodge,
F&AM.
He leaves his wife, Shirley; a
son, Eugene; a daughter, Mrs.
Samuel (Barbara) Goss; six sis-
ters, Mrs. Sam (Bertha) Dolnick,
Mrs. Harry (Rae) Friedenberg,
Shirley, Mrs. Norman (Esther)
Marovitz, Mrs. Nellie Maltz and
Mrs. Irving (Ruth) Natinsky; and
eight grandchildren.
Services 10 a.m. today at Kauf-
man Chapel.

came to Detroit 53 years ago.

seven grandchildren.
