Rabbi Manfred Pick, principal of Akiva Hebrew Day School, Mrs.
Bernard Blase, president of the school's PTA, and Mrs. Charles Snow,
secretary, will represent Akiva Hebrew Day School at the forthcoming
18th annual convention of the National Association of Hebrew Day
School PTA's Feb. 20-22. Rabbi Pick also will participate in the region-
al conference of Midwestern Hebrew Day School Principals in Toronto
this weekend, prior to the PTA convention.
A delegation from the Beth Yehudah schools also will attend the
conference. Headed by Rabbi A. A. Freedman, principal of the boys
division, and Rabbi Sholom Goldstein, principal of the Beth Jacob
School for Girls, the group will include Rabbis N. Deutsch, M. Polter L
and C. Zachariash of the Hebrew staff. The PTA convention, whose
theme is "The Components of Day School Education: Identity, Security
and Commitment," will be attended by Mesdames Eric Greenbaum,
PTA president; Hillel L. Abrams, local convention chairman; Leib
Bakst; Morris Carmen and Henry Baum.
Artist and sculptress Lillian Jane Rubin, president of Detroit's
Criterion Club, returned this week from a sabbatical leave of five
months, during which she was engaged in creative research at Rome,
Florence, Vienna, Paris and other major art centers in Europe.
Detroiters Mrs. Norman' I. Leemon and Mrs. Morris L. Schaver,
national board members of Pioneer Women, are among the top
leaders of the women's labor Zionist organization who attended a
three-day conference at the Statler-Hilton Hotel, New York City, this
week.
Among the out-of-town guests attending the Bar Mitzvah of Jeffrey
Bogrow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Bogrow, 22031 Whitmore, Oak
Park, were his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wisotsky of Miami,

and cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. Lee from . Los Angeles. A dinner=
dance was held at Imperial Catering.
Detroiters attending the 1966 national convention of the Society *
of Israel Philatelists, to be held May 21-22 in Washington, D.C., will *

In a recent afternoon ceremony
at Cong. Beth Shalom, Eleanor
Gay Tractenberg became the bride
of - Douglas Earl Brandow. Rabbis
Mordecai Halpern, M. Robert
Syme and Cantor Ruben Erlbaum
officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Arthur Tractenberg of
Sussex Ave., Oak Park. The bride-
groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Brandow of Traverse City.
The bride wore a floor-length
satin sheath gown with a wide

border of Alencon lace at the
sleeves and hem, and a detach-
able train. Her shoulder-length

veil was held in place by a petal-
like crown. She carried a bou-
quet of white orchids.
The maid of honor was Beverly
Simon. Bridesmaids were Eva
Kuhn, Judy Resnick and the bride-
groom's sister, Aneeta Brandow.
The bride's brother, Lt. Donald
Tractenberg of Waukegan, served
as best man. Ushers were Richard
Digon, Alex Karabajakian, William
Klump and Alan Granader.
Also in the bridal party was
the bride's. grandmother, Mrs. Mary
Schwartz.

Seeks East European
Jews' Participation
at Plenary of WJC

BRUSSELS—The World Jewish
Congress is actively pursuing ef-
forts to secure a broad participa-
tion of East European Jewish
communities in its forthcoming
plenary assembly here.
Reference to these efforts was
made by Dr. Nahum Goldmann,
WJC president, in a formal an-
nouncement convoking the or-
ganization's fifth plenary assem-
bly in Brussels from July 31 until
Aug. 9. The only community of
the East European bloc presently
affiliated with the global Jewish
organization is the Federation of
Jewish Communities in Yugoslavia.
However, Dr. Moses Rosen, chief
rabbi of Romania and a member
of his country's parliament, at-
tended the meeting of the WJC's
world executive that took place in
Strasbourg, France, last summer.

Keynote speaker will be Mrs.
Martha Selig, consultant on family
and children's services of the Fed-
eration of Jewish Philanthropies
of New York. Mrs. Selig's profes-
sional background includes teach-
ing, group work and clinical psy-
chology, as well as social case
work. Her activities in various
aspects of communal life include:
Vice-chairman of the New York
City Commission for the Foster
Care of Children, board m _ ember-
ship on the Council of Jewish
Federations and Welfare Funds,
membership on the advisory com-
mittees of the New York State
Joint Legislature Commitee on
Child Care Needs, and the Schools
of Social Work at Hunter College
and Yeshiva University.
Sharing program honors with
her will be the chairman, Mrs.
Norma Silver, assistant adminis-
trator of Sinai Hospital, and dis-
cussants, Richard F. Huegli, man-
aging director of the United Com-
munity Services of Metropolitan
Detroit, and Samuel Cohen, assist-
ant director of Federation.
The planning committee respons-
ible for this year's institute under
Mrs. Silver's chairmanship includes
Marvin Berman, Fresh Air Society;
Harold Dubin, Jewish Community
Council; Leon Elkin, Jewish Home
for Aged; Eugene Jaffe, Jewish
Community Center; Mrs. Ida Kost,
Jewish Family and Children's
Service; Miss Selma Lesser, Jewish
Vocational Service; Dr. Naphtali
Wiesner, United Hebrew Schools;
and secretary, Milton Weiner, Fed-
eration.

elementary science education at
Michigan State University. Her
fiance received his BS and MS
degrees at Wayne State University,
and is now attending the College
of Osteopathic Medicine and Sur-
gery in Des Monies.
An August wedding is planned.

The third in a series of confer-
ences . on "Mental Health in the
Great Society" will be held Feb.
25, in the Alumni Lounge on the
Wayne State University campus.
Dr. Edith Sterba, clinical asso-
ciate professor in the department
of psychiatry, WSU School of Medi-
cine, will be the main speaker.
Joining with Dr. Sterba in dis-
cussion sessions will be three WSU
faculty members: Dr. Morton Le-
vitt, associate dean of the School
of Medicine; Dr. Lawrence Tur-
kow, clinical associate professor,
School of Medicine, and Dr. George
D. Barahal, professor of education-
al and clinical psychology. Also
taking part in the day's program
is Dr. Harold H. Davidson, child
analyst.
