Republican District
Condemns Birchism

Committee Heads Yeshiva Planning

Seventeenth District Republican
Chairthan Louis Klei has made
public a documented study of the
principles and tenets of the John
Birch Society declaring that Birch-
ism and Republicanism are abso-
lutely incompatible.
He made the announcement in
the form of a resolution which was
overwhelmingly passed at a district
board meeting Jan. 31.
"Frankly," said Klei, "I believe
that most Birch members are well
intentioned and don't know what
they've let themselves in for. I
hope they'll study our report real
thoroughly and do some much
needed soul searching. If they do,
we think they'll come to the same
conclusion we did, namely that
many of the tenets of the society
are inconsistent with American
democracy as we know it and that
they are certainly unRepublican."

Opus 27 No. 1 at Ford Auditorium

is music from the nearly com-

tion granted the composer two
consecutve fellowships. The over-
ture itself took nearly 60 days in
the writing and won first honor-

based on the story of Judith and
Holofernes, translated into the
20th Century, with Negroes as the
counterparts of the Jews of Jer-
usalem and a corrupt white poli-
tician as the counterpart of Holo-
fernes.
