Offers Scholarship Set Big Sabbath
Sgt. Morton A. Silverman Post
and Auxiliary of the Jewish War
Veterans are offering a scholar-
ship grant to the son or daughter
of a Michigan veteran.
Announcement of the grant was
made by David L. Friedman, com-
mander of Silverman Post, and
Mrs. Irving Elkins, president of
the auxiliary. The $250 award will
be given on the basis of need and
the scholastic aptitude of the quali-
fying candidate. High school gradu-
ates and pupils who will graduate
this June are invited to apply.
The committee reviewing appli-
cations is composed of Mrs. Maurice
Shepherd, chairman; Rabbi Max
Kapustin, director of Hillel Foun-
dation at Wayne State University;
Mrs. Walter E. Klein, former
school teacher and social worker;
and Judge Joseph J. Pernick of
Common Pleas Court.
Applications, in the form of a
letter, accompanied by a copy of
the parent's discharge papers,
school transcript and letter of re-
commendation of teachers or coun-
selor, should be directed to the
Sgt. Morton. A. Silverman Post,
Labor Zionist Institute. The dead-
line for filing applications is April
15.
They Made the Grade
NANCY JEAN ISRAEL, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Is-
rael, 20455 Strathmoor, is playing
the lead role of "Sarah" in the
Cass Technical High School pro-
duction of "J.B." by Archibald
MacLeish. There will be three per-
formances given in the school au-
ditorium, 8 p.m. Thursday and
Feb. 12, with a matinee next Friday
at 2 p.m.

chestra will be among the fea-
tured performers at a special

termediate Congregation.
Organized and directed in 1961
by violinist Jerome Stasson, this
orchestra presents Jewish and Is-
raeli music, in addition to compo-
sitions from the classic literature
in their programs. Also featured
are talented soloists from the or-
chestra on each program.
Judith Grubner, flutist, will per-
fOrm a movement of the Suite for
Solo Flute and Orchestra by Tele-
mann, arranged for full orchestra
by Stasson. Rochelle Abramson
will play the Max Bruch arrange-
ment. of "Kol Nidre."
Rochelle is an Interlochen schol-
arship winner and has appeared
several times as soloist with the
orchestra.
The orchestra, composed of tal-
ented high school and interme-
diate students, presents five or
six major programs during each
season in addition to television
and radio appearances.

actor-musician husband-wife team,
will present "The Story of the
Jewish People Through Folksong"
under the sponsorship of the Bnai
Brith Hillel Foundation and the
Beth Israel Congregation of Ann
Arbor 8 p.m. Saturday in the
Zwerdling-Cohn Chapel of the
Hillel building.
The Aronsons have appeared be-
fore many Jewish organizations
across the country, including Hil-
lel Foundations, and synagogue
groups.
In their concerts, Aronson's
role is that of actor, singer, guitar-
ist and storyteller. A former il-
lustrator, he turned his hobby of
singing folksongs into his chosen
career. His wife studied piano and
took up guitar while doing gradu-
ate work in Romance languages at
the University of Brussels. She
also plays mandolin and accordian.
