daughter of Dr. and Mrs. James
E. Goodfriend of Wildemere Ave.,
was married to Dr. Michael Evans
Meskin, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Monte Meskin of Ohio Ave.
Rabbi Morris Adler performed
the ceremony at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek. The bride wore an Empire-
style gown of Bemberg rose with
an attached chapel-length train.
The gown was appliqued with
jeweled lace motifs at the scoop
neckline and the front panel of
the skirt. Her headpiece was a
matching shaped pillbox of silk
and jeweled lace with a full, tiered
veil of imported silk illusion. Her
bouquet was of orchids, stephan-
otis and ivy.
Carol Goodfriend was her sis-
ter's maid of honor. Bridesmaids
were Mrs. Paul Himelhoch, Alyssa
Kahn and Ellen Goodman of
Munster, Ind.
Dr. Lawrence Meskin of St.
Louis Park, Minn., was his bro-
ther's best man. Ushers were
Robert Goodfriend, brother of the
bride, Leon Schurgin and Jerrold
Gottlieb.

Turover Ferein Elects
Ben Grant President

Turover Ferein, at age 55 the
oldest landsmanshaft group in De-
troit, installed Ben Grant as pres-
ident in recent ceremonies.
Other officers are Hyman Kro-
witz and Joe Berman, vice presi-
dents; Charles Ablecop, treasurer;
Harry Mandell and Louis Rabino-
witz, secretaries; P a u 1 Brickner
and Sophie Pfeiffer, hospitalers;

at Israel Bond Luncheon in Detroit

Bikel organized the Tel Aviv
Chamber Theater. In 1946 he left
Palestine for London and entered
the Royal Academy of Dramatic
Art. In London, Bikel began to
concentrate on folk music in earn-
est. He also began to achieve some
success as an actor. Sir Laurence
Olivier cast him in a leading role
in a "A Streetcar Named Desire."
In 1950 Bikel met Peter Ustinov,
who picked him for a lead in the
play, "The Love of Four Colonels."
In 1954 Bikel came to New York
and starred on Broadway in many
noteworthy plays, including "The
Dancers," "The Lark" and "The
Little Kidnappers." He also be-
came a leading film star and in
1959 he was nominated for an
Academy Award for his portrayal
of a Southern sheriff in "The De-
fiant Ones." He starred in the hit
musical "The Sound of Music"
with Mary Martin and also was
in the film version of "My Fair
Lady."
Bikel has appeared in virtually
every top dramatic show on Tele-
