afternoon of fun and games 2 p.m.
Sunday at Young Israel Center of
Oak-Woods.
Chanie Lazarus of the national
Mizrachi office in New York will
come in especially for this occa-
sion to direct the event. Group

Judy Weinman, Esther Goldman,

White, Darlene Hendler and Toby
Burg also will be present. Friends

Jewish Meals
In the Jewish home, chicken
soup is closely associated with
feasts and holidays, also with Sab-
bath meals, and was almost obli-
gatory at weddings. In fact the
wedding supper is called "Die
Goldene Yoich" (the golden soup)
from the globules of rich yellow
fat floating on its surface. No one
would dream of celebrating a sil-
ver or golden wedding anniversary
without this delectable dish. The

dra Toby to Michael Cherrin, son
of Mrs. Sam Cherrin of Roslyn
Rd. and the late Mr. Cherrin.
Miss Schlussel attended the Uni-
versity of Michigan and is now a
senior in the college of education
of Wayne State University. Her
fiance, a graduate of U. of M., now
attends Wayne State University's
law school.

and garlic in a large soup pot con-
taining the water. Bring slowly to a
boil, skim, •lower flame and simmer
about 1 1/2 hours. Add vegetables and
pepper and salt and continue to sim-
mer about 11/2 hours longer until
chicken and meat are tender. Re-
move them.. Strain soup, put it back
in the pot, add 1 tablespoon chopped
parsley and about 1 cup of thin boiled
noodles. Serve chicken and meat, put
on a platter with vegetables around
it. Serve with horseradish.
Cabbage or Sauerkraut Soup
2 pounds sauerkraut and juice or
head- of cabbage cored and shredded
1 large onion sliced
3 quarts boiling water
2 pounds lean brisket or flanken bones.
1 carrot sliced
4 tablespoons brown sugar
1 apple diced (optional)
1 medium can tomatoes (not Italian)
1 teaspoon caraway seeds
Salt and pepper to taste.
Place in large pot meat, bones, onion,
carrot, sugar, sauerkraut and juice or
cabbage, tomatoes and boiling water.
If using cabbage, add same instead of
sauerkraut, and lh teaspoon citric acid
or one tablespoon lemon juice. Add
pepper and salt to taste. If using apple
also add same. Let simmer and skim.
Cover and simmer about three hours
until meat tender. Add caraway seeds.
