President of Europe Parliament Charged With Nazism in War STRASBOURG (JTA) — "Indig- nation" over the nomination of Belgian Senator Victor Leemans as president of the European Par- nament, and a demand that he step down and resign from the Parliament on charges of Nazism, was made here at a meeting held by L'Union de Resistance Pour L'Europe Uni, an association to which all World War II resistance movements belong. The meeting condemned Lee- mans as one who was active in Nazism and "faithful" to that ideology for 15 years before World War II. Jean Fosty, a former Free French officer and now an intelli- gence officer for the Belgian gov- ernment, denounced Leemans as "a champion of political and eco- nomic collaboration" with t h e Nazis. Albert Rendorfer, 55, was con- victed on charges of complicity in the killing of 446 men, women and children in the Minsk area in 1942 and 1943. He was sentenced to five years at hard labor. Wilhelm Dadischek, 52, was convicted of complicity in the murder of 160 Jews and senten- ced to three years and eight months hard labor. The defen- dants admitted their roles in the killings but said they had done so on orders. The Munich court held they were completely re- sponsible because neither had made any effort to disobey the orders. Rendorfer, according to State Prosecutor Karl Bog "fulfilled" orders to carry out "Ghetto Action Lenin," which involved the shoot- ing and hanging of Jews in Han- cewicze, near Minsk, and the liqui- dation of Jewish men, women and children in the ghetto of Poho- stzkhorod ki, in the Lohoczym dis- trict. His Jewish victims totaled 580. Bog asked that he be given six years' imprisonment at hard labor. Against the second defen- dant. Wilhelm Dadischek, who was convicted of murdering 210 Jews, the prosecutor asked a lighter sen- tence of 10 months. A total of 1,700 persons have been tried for war crimes in the Province of Rhineland-Pfalz since the end of the war, according to a tabulation made today by the Min- istry of Justice of that West Ger- man state. The figures showed that, of the total, 470 were convicted and sen- tenced, three of the men receiving life sentences at hard labor. Pro- ceedings are now underway, the Rhineland-Pfalz ministry said, against 75 defendants involved in 56 cases. In Hamburg, two former Ger- man policemen who were eye- witnesses to the operations of a special SS wartime unit in Mog- ilew in occupied Russia testified that Adolf Harnischmacher, a former high ranking SS officer, personally participated in mass killings of Jews. Georg Koberowski, one of the former policemen, testified that Harnischmacher not only took part in the mass shootings but also in- stigated them. The witness told the court that the former SS officer "gave orders to the firing squad and also used a machinegun him- self." He testified also that "at each execution of 200 to 300 Jews, Harn- ischmacher wore a coat to protect his uniform from the blood of his victims. He used to carry a whip at all times, with which he beat the Jews before they were shot." Karl Kaettner of Berlin, the other former policeman, gave cor- roborating evidence. The two wit- nesses had been ordered in 1942 to assist Harischmacher's Unit 8 in Mogilew. In Salzburg, Austria, the trial opened here Monday of two Po- lish brothers accused in the war- time mass murder of 12,000 Jews in the Nazi occupied Polish town of Stanislaw. Wilhelm Mauer, 48, and Johann Mauer, 52, both of Lvov, were ac- cused of taking part in executions and committing individual mur- ders on Oct. 12, 1941, when SS troops and Ukrainian auxiliaries occupied the Stanislaw Ghetto and rounded up 20,000 Jews. They marched 12,000 of the Jews to a spot where they were sys- tematically killed by machinegun fire. The Nazis later imposed a heavy fine on the Stanislaw Jewish Council to pay for the "ammuni- tion for the executions." The brothers were held in pre- trial detention for nearly four years while the prosecution took testimony from 200 survivors for the trial. A jury of five men and two women is hearing the case. Earlier, the Dutch government requested West Germany to ex- tradite Dr. Hans Fischboek, the Nazi director-general of finance and economy in Holland during World World II. He is accused of having plundered Jewish proper- ties in the Netherlands during the war and of having organized the deportation of Dutch Jews to concentration camps. Dr. Fisch- boek, now 70, was traced to Es- sen, Germany. Meanwhile the Dutch Ministry of Justice announced that it will fur- nish to West Germany evidence against three Nazis arrested in Munich, charged with complicity in the deportation of 100,000 Dutch Jews to death camps.
