Speaking at a meeting with rep-

the minister also urged the His-

to restrain wage demands of un-
ions. He said the unions could not
simultaneously present "exorbit-
ant" claims for higher pay while
also urging efforts to stem infla-
tion.
Meanwhile, the Central Bureau
of Statistics announced in Jeru-
salem that Israel's trade balance
has improved this year. The fig-
ures showed that the trade gap-

Israel Manufacturers Association Head
Warns Intense Inflation on Horizon

TEL AVIV (JTA)-"Intense in-
flation" faces Israel and "there
seems to be no way to avoid. it,"
Zalman Suzayeff, chairman of the
presidium of the Israeli Manufac-
turers Association, warned.
"Under these circumstances," he
declared, "the government's prin-
ciple should be to channel the in-
flation into some kind of frame-
work, so that we will be able to
see the end of the inflation." He
stressed that "Israel cannot absorb

De Gaulle Under Strong
Arab Pressure to Bypass
Israel on Visit to Mid East

PARIS (ZINS) - The French
Foreign Ministry is now under
strong pressure on the part of the
Arab states to prevail upon Gen-
eral de Gaulle to bypass Israel
during his forthcoming visit to the
Middle East, it is reported by well-
informed political circles. The
same sources add that de Gaulle's
aides would be pleased if the
General would yield to Arab pres-
sure. This attitude on the part of
the President's advisors is not at-
tributed to any unfriendliness to-
wards Israel but is due rather to
the fear of the vast complications
which would ensue from a visit to
Arab countries and Israel at the
same time. There prevails in the
French Foreign Ministry the view
that in the event the organization
of the simultaneous visit by the
General to the Arab countries and
Israel would create "too many
technical difficulties," then the
French Head of State will pay a
separate visit to Israel and later
resume his tour of the Middle
East.
(The Lebanese newspaper "L'Or-
ion" carries a dispatch the Presi-
dent deGaulle plans to visit Leba-
non, Jordan and Egypt during the
spring. The newspaper adds that
"Paris official circles exclude the
possibility of the French General
visiting Israel during the same
tour.")

Chicago Wants More
Children to Study
in Hebrew Courses

CHICAGO (JTA) - Dr. Thad-
deus J. Lubera, associate superin-
tendent in charge of instruction for
the Chicago Board of Education,
urged the Jewish community here
to encourage the enrollment of
their children in the Hebrew classes
of Chicago's public high schools.
Noting that Hebrew classes are
formed in Chicago high schools
when sufficient enrollment and ac-
credited teachers can be secured,
Dr. Lubera called on organizations,
synagogues and parents to encour-
age Jewish youngsters to sign up
for courses already offered in four
high schools, and expressed the
hope that the language would soon
be offered in additional schools.
"I shall do everything in my power
to help boost the Hebrew language
and secure teachers and the neces-
sary materials," he declared.
