Serena Felix Engaged The Gezer Calendar
In 1908 a small, inscribed lime-
to Leonard Borman
stone tablet was discovered at Ge-
zer, 20 miles from Jerusalem. It
is an agricultural calendar which
catalogues the agricultural opera-
tions for the twelve months of the
year. Recent scholarship has
claimed it to be as early as 11th
Century B.C.E. It may thus be - re-
garded linguistically as the most
ancient inscription available in
early Hebrew writing. There have
been difficulties involved in de-
cipherment which lead scholars
to believe that it was not an offi-
cial inscription, but indeed it is
most valuable in tracing early He-
brew script.
