Y Bond Festival Draws
housands Despite Strike

(Direct JTA Teletype Wire
to The Jewish News)

NEW YORK—Despite a strike of
tranit facilities that
most regulars
kept millions from traveling, more
than 10,000 persons were on hand
Monday night for the third and
final performance of the Hanukah
Festival for Israel sponsored by
the Israel Bond Organization.
Guest speaker at the event was
New York's new mayor, John V.
Lindsay, who took time off from
his continuing efforts to cope with
the city's transit difficulties to ad-
dress the gathering. He lauded
Israel's adherence to democratic
ideals and principles, asserting
that Israel was "faithful and dear
to us."
William Goldfine, campaign
chairman of the Greater New York
Committee for State of Israel
Bonds, reported that a record sum,
$17,895,250, was raised through
Sales of Israel Bonds in New York
City in 1965.
