During this happy and holy Hanu-

Now Where Have I Heard That Before? Burton's Juvenile Shoes
By CHARLOTTE HYAMS
"But it's so dreadfully Old Coun-
try to have a Hanukah party," she
said, in distainful response to my
suggestion. "Why don't we just
call it a holiday party?"
Well, I guess that's okay, I
mumbled. Divisiveness in the Jew-
ish community can take on such
vast proportions, I didn't want
to quibble over minutiae. Only
Jews would be there, so it didn't
really matter what we called it.
"And it'll be very chic," she
went on — "none of the same old
red-green stuff, tinsel and trees
and things."
"Well, just what did you have
in mind?" I asked. What kind of a
Jewish party was this?
She just blinked before charg-
ing on. "Now, for a color scheme,
why don't we use blue? It's so,
well, wintry. And maybe touches
of white for accents?"
I nodded, not daring to tell
her those were the colors of the
Israel flag. She would promptly
kill the whole scheme as too
Semitic.
"Maybe instead of electric lights
we could use candles," she said.
"It's so arty, don't you think?"
"I have a candelabrum that
holds nine little candles," I put
in helpfully.
"Perfect! And so Scandinavian."
"Yes, it is."
"Now, we don't want any heavy
refreshments," she continued. "It's
so Old Country Jewish to have
heavy food, don't you \think?"
I was ready to tell her what I
thought, but she surged on: "Now,
I have a recipe for some delight-
ful little Swedish pancakes —
potato pancakes."
"But—" I started. Somehow all
this sounded vaguely familiar.
"Don't tell me potato pan-
cakes are French," she inter-
rupted with a laugh, "I'm very
familiar with national customs."
"Of course."
"We don't need any planned
entertainment either," she said,
"perhaps just little individual
games available for those who
want them. Like this delightful
little spin-the-top thing I saw in
Mexico."
"You don't think it's juvenile?"
"Oh, really, my dear, of course
not. We'll play for money."
"Of course."
"You know," she said, settling
back, "I'll, bet this party goes
over really big. It's so different,
so novel."
"You bet."
I just couldn't wait to hear what
songs she'd want tis to sing.
