Mashglach on Promises ON THE OCEAN AT 84th STREET, MIAMI BEACH HAIFA — A distinct correlation exists between marks achieved in physical education and those re- ceived in academic studies, accord- ing to a recent report completed by Abraham Jacobsohn, lecturer in the Department of General Studies at the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology. A required subject for first-year students, physical education grades the student on his attitude and personal willingness in addition to his athletic abilities. Noticing an apparent connection between the grades received in physical educa- tion and those of academic courses, Jacobsohn, who joined the Technion faculty in 1952 as a certified phys- ical education instructor, launched a comprehensive study to discover whether this supposed phenomenon would be supported in the light of actual statistics. The academic records of more than 700 Technion students were inspected in relation to the grades they received in physical educa- tion. These collected data indicated that those students who had achieved high marks in phyical Education continued to remain above the median grade level dur- ing their entire course of study, while those receiving only average marks in Physical Education, ac- hieved only similar grades in their academic studies as well. * * * • TEMPUS FUGIT... NOW IS THE TIME TO MAKE YOUR RESERVATION AT HAIFA — A teaching aid and photography unit, which will serve the academic staff to the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, has been enlarged and reorganized at the Institute. It is headed by An- thony Peranio, Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Civil Engineering. The unit is equipped with teach- ing aids such as overhead projec- tors, slide projectors, movie pro- jectors, magnetic tape recorders, photographs and a closed circuit television set. The photographic equipment in- cludes movie cameras for both black and white and color pictures. Also at the disposal of the Technion staff is a Fastax camera for high speed photography, capable of- filming 8,000 pictures per second, which is especially useful for re- search purposes. The unit operates a fully equip- ped dark room for developing and printing of colored and black and white films. Also on hand are several expert technicians to advise teachers and researchers of the Institute on proper use of the equipment. In his circular to the teaching staff Peranio stresses the im- portance of teaching aids and photography for the efficient trans- mission of complex technological concepts. DIET IN LUXURY Z.;."
