Four distinguished members of
the Lubavitcher Rebbe's Habad
school of thought joined here last
week-end in discussions of the
principles of the Habad move-
ment.
Joining with the local Habad
director, Rabbi Berel Shemtov,
were three other leaders of the
movement — his brother, Rabbi
Abraham Shemtov of Philadelphia;
Rabbi Moshe Feller of Minneapolis
and Rabbi Osher Zeilingold of
Brooklyn.
The four Hasidic spokesmen
were here to mark the date—Yud
Tes Kislev—on which the founder
of the Habad movement, Rabbi
Shneur Zalman, was freed from
captivity by the Russians in 1798.

the World Series games he had
conferred with Sandy Koufax who
avowed a deep interest in his
faith and who became interested
in the Habad movement. (See

Rabbi Abraham Shemtov said
that Dolph Schaye, the great
basketball star, was sympathetic
and was devotedly Jewish. He
also • said that he had been told
that the great Negro basketball
star, Stew Cunningham, had con-
verted to Judaism.
Rabbi Feller is an American
product. The Shemtov brothers
studied clandestinely in Russia
during Stalin's time and managed
to escape from the USSR and to
come to this country.
Bnai David Festiva Celebration
to Begin With 5th Annual Concert
The fifth annual Hanukah con-
cert 8 p.m. Saturday will usher in
a week of festivities and special
programs at Cong. Bnai David.
The concert of Hebrew and
Liturgical music is being directed
by Cantor Hyman J. Adler. The
Bnai David Choir and choral groups
will participate with several guest
cantors.
On Sunday, the Bnai David
School will conduct two special as-
sembly programs at 9 and 10:15
a.m. in the social hall. (See youth
page).
At 8:30 p.m. Monday, the
men's club and sisterhood of the
congregation will hold a joint
Hanukah program. Rabbi Hayim
Donin will speak on the theme
of the festival. Refreshments and
entertainment will be offered.
A get-acquinted evening with
the 73 families who recently joined
the congregation will be held 8
p.m. Tuesday, at the invitation of
Jack J. Kraizman, president, and
Rabbi Hayim Donin.
Carnival at Beth Am
Temple Beth Am Sunday School
invites everyone to the second
annual Hanukah Carnival noon to
3 p.m. Sunday • at Grandview
School, Livonia.
Game booths will be run by
the Sunday school children, teach-
ers and parents. There will be a
cakewalk, white elephant sale,
prizes and a lunch counter serv-
ing food at a nominal cost.
A theater party at the Fisher
Theater is being sponsored for
Dec. 25. "Sweet Charity," a new
musical play, is being presented.
The Mr. and Mrs. Club will pre-
sent a hoedown for tots through
teens on the last day of Hanukah,
1-4 p.m. Dec. 26 with refreshments
and prizes.
Religious services, incorporating
the special prayers for the fes-
tivals, are conducted each morning
and evening.

Ordained by the Seminary In
1942, Rabbi Lehrman came to De-
troit in 1948 and has since occupied
the pulpit at Bnai Moshe.
