LONDON—Yehudi Menuhin, the
world famous violinist, has been
named by Queen Elizabeth II an
honorary knight, Commander of
the Order of the British Empire, it
was announced here Tuesday.
Because he is an American citi-
zen, Menuhin, who resides here,
will not take the title "Sir," which
is reserved for British or Common-
wealth citizens. High British titles
such as the K.B.E. are normally
awarded to foreigners because of
their special services to Britain.
Menuhin, who was awarded the
title on recommendation of Prime
Minister Harold Wilson, has been
active in founding various music
festivals in this country.

French Children Know
About Nazi Horror

PARIS (JTA)—Entries for an
essay prize for school children in
Paris showed that an overwhelm-
ing majority of the children knew
about the scope of Nazi crimes
during World War II.
The subject for the annual con-
test sponsored by the Association
of Former Deportees and Concen-
tration Camp Inmates was "What
Do You Know About the Concen-
tration Camps of the War?" The
7,000 responses submitted so far
showed that the children knew a
great deal about France's travail
during the war and about the Nazi
record.
