GEORGE GENOFF'S ORCHESTRA
EVERY FEW MONTHS, a new this all you have to do?" replied
rumor crops up about Darbys
Restaurant . . . none of them are
true or even have any basis, such
as Darbys dickering with a New
York outfit, or having for sale
ads in various newspapers around
the country . . . The latest get-
ting around is that Darbys has
been sold for $2,000,000 . . . This
is a tidy sum, but the very popu-
lar Detroit eatery is still owned
and operated by Sam Boesky . . .
and, according to Sam, NOT FOR
SALE AT ANY PRICE!
FAYE THOME writes from Pon-
tiac, Mich., about organizing a
Gourmet Club . . . Group goes to
various places of interest to dine
. . . and asks us to recommend
spots of national origin, such as
French, German, etc. . . . Also,
Faye would like to know where
they serve true Israeli food . . .
Of the latter, we do not know of
anyplace that offers this very fine
Mid-Eastern cuisine.
YOU'VE ALL HEARD about the
panhandler who wanted $200 for
a cup of coffee because he couldn't
go into a restaurant dressed as he
was . . . Here's a new one . . . A
panhandler approached a prosper-
ous-looking man and asked for a
dime for a cup of coffee . . . "Is
Gellhorn "Guide to
Hawaii, Far East"
Excellent Volume
Eleanor Cowles Gellhorn has
emerged as one of the very ablest
compilers guides to many areas
in the world, including the most
far-flung.
Her guide to the Middle East —
including Israel — has received
acclaim and has been reviewed
in these columns.
Her newest in her series is "Mc-
Kay's Guide to the Far East and
Hawaii" published by David Mc-
Kay Co. (750 3rd, NY17).
Included in this impressive work
are guides to and complete de-
scriptions of Hawaii (Oahu, Kauai,
Nihau, Molokai, Lanai, Maui, Ha-
waii) and the Far East.
In the latter section are incor-
porated the basic facts about Thai-
land, Burma, Japan, India, Indo-
nisia, Macau, Ceylon, Hong Kong,
Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philip-
pines, Taiwan.
Mrs. Gellhorn's new guide is as
much history and geography as it
is a guide for travelers. It is a
most highly recommendable work
and is a tribute to the genius of a
woman who has become a leader
in her field of endeavor — a guide
to the wonders of the world.

the prospect. "Look at you — you
sleep on park benches, your clothes
are torn, and you're hungry. Why
don't you get a grip on yourself
and go to work?" . . . "Go to
work," growled the bum in disgust.
What for — to support a bum like
me?"
RDUARDO ROY, now appearing
at Sammy Sofferin's Wonder Bar
and Steak House, is the Argen-
tinian violinist and bandleader
with the compelling Latin-Ameri-
can rhythms whose authentic tango
recordings are used in dance
schools throughout the country .
He plays jazz violin as well as tak-
ing over the microphone for an
occasional vocal . . . Eduardo Roy
Latin albums include "Strictly for
Dancing" and "Message of Love."
MURRY LIEBERMAN at Cove-
you's Poolside Lounge is the same
Murry whose fantastic memory
made him quite the food king at
the Lieberman and Citron eatery
on Linwood . . . He knew exactly
what just about everybody liked
and folks appreciated this no end
. . . Even now, years later, he'll
tell you how you like your eggs
cooked two o'clock in the morn-
ing! . . . Murry's association at
Coveyou's will bring a lot of
people out to the spot on Stephen-
son Highway, between 8 and 9 Mile
Roads.

The Berkowitz family will mark
their 16th year of successful hotel
operation with the re-opening for
the winter season of their Coronet
Hotel in Miami Beach.
All public rooms have been com-
pletely refurbished and the syna-
gogue, with a seating capacity of
200 persons, has been redecorated.
Daily services will be held in
this sanctuary for hotel guests as
well as special Sabbath services
officiated by guest cantors and
leading orthodox Rabbis.
Once again, guests will be as-
sured of the traditionally excellent
kosher cuisine.
The hotel's extensive facilities
include a new glass enclosed snack
bar, Olympic size swimming pool
and a full block of sandy ocean
beach. A complete program of
planned entertainment for both
day and evening is conducted by
a competent social hostess.
Champagne Cocktail is not hard to
make at home . . . and you'll find
it quite a favorite . . . Into a chilled
Champagne Cocktail glass, put one
piece of sugar . . . Saturate the
sugar with Peychaud Bitters (if Pey-
chaud is not available use Angos-
tura) . . Add four ounces of nat-
urally carbonated chilled Cham-
pagne . . . To dress, place if orange
slice against side of glass and direct-
ly opposite use thin stick of fresh
pineapple.
