Names Two Key Leaders

Mrs. Joye Hordes, 12735 Vernon,
Huntington Woods, has been named
March of Dimes Mothers' March
chairman for her area, and Mrs.
Earl Gormaine, 19495 W. 11 Mile,
is another key leader among the
120 who will direct Oakland Coun-
ty Chapter's "Operation Kickoff"
for the '66 campaign Wednesday
evening.
Funds are needed to aid victims
of birth defects and to continue
the programs of national medical
research, local diagnostic and
treatment centers, health career
scholarships and direct medical and
patient aid program.
A countywide speakers bureau
will be available with free films
and speeches to all clubs, organ-
izations and fraternal groups by
calling LI 9-6778, or FE 8-0411.

T h e caseworker immediately
called the electric and gas com-
panies, asking them to send some-
one out to the man's residence:
checks would be waiting to cover
the unpaid bills. The service was
not interrupted.

An open meeting, to which all
women in the community are in-
vited, will be held 12:30 p.m.
Thursday at Beth Shalom Syna-
gogue. Held only once a year, the
open meeting will take up actual
case histories, changing only names
and statistics to protect those in-
volved.

Israel Bond Women
to Say Toda Raba'

Dedicated women volunteers
will receive Chen charms and
advance guard emblems at the
Toda Raba Award Night, Tuesday,
8 p.m., in the Adas Shalom Social
Hall, it was announced by Mrs.
Morris L. Schaver, chairman of
the Detroit Israel Bond Women's
Division, which is sponsoring the
affair. Sponsor pins will be
awarded to paid-up 1965 Sponsors
of Israel. Mrs. David Pollack is
sponsor chairman and Mrs. Louis
M. Elliman is Chen chairman.
Tamar Eshel, former member of
the Israel delegation to the UN
and secretary of the National
Research and Development Coun-
cil for the Prime Minister's Office
of Israel, will be the guest speaker.
Mrs. Eshel served as the chairman
of the UN Commission on the
Status of Women and was head
of the Israel Foreign Ministry
Director-General's Office.
Mrs. Edward Wishnetsky is cash
collection chairman.
Admission is free and all wom-
en volunteers are invited. Refresh-
ments will be served.

caseworkers meet once a month to
explore the cases for the best pos-
sible approach.
Should an emergency arise be-
tween meetings, the chairman (this
year Mrs. Jules J. Sanders) is
called, and she in turn contacts
the case worker of the group whose
category meets the necessity of
that particular case.
The need for help is brought to
the attention of the Council
through many channels — profes-
sional service agencies unable to
render such immediate aid, or by
rabbis and neighbors who notice
a family in need.
One case occurred in the dead
of winter involving a Council case-
worker who was entertaining din-
ner guests when the phone call
came. She was told by the neigh-
bor of a destitute father with five
