Abram, who is U.S. representative on the Human Rights Commission at the United Nations, reported that, when the convention condemning racial and ethnic discrimination was introduced at the United Na- tions, the Arab countries inserted an attack on Zionism, linking it with anti-Semitism and Nazism. Jacob Blaustein, honorary presi- dent of the Committee and a for- mer U.S. delegate to the United Nations, presented the organiza- tion's American Liberties Medal- lion to Ambassador Arthur J. Gold- berg, U.S. representative at the United Nations. The award was accepted for Ambassador Goldberg, who has been bed-ridden for a week with a virus, by Dr. James M. Nabrit, Jr., his deputy. At a meeting of the Pennsyl- vania State AJC conference, a campaign to end discrimination against Jews in management posts in the Philadelphia area was announced. The conference cited a survey of Jews in banking executive posi- tions in 1961 which showed that about 1 1/2 percent of the 1,028 offi- cers of the city's major commer- cial banks were Jews. A survey last summer showed similar data on life and fire casualty firms in the area. The plan calls for employment of a management expert jointly by the Committee's regional office and the Philadelphia Jewish Em- ployment and Vocational Service, to interest such firms in recruit- ing young Jewish adults for con- sideration for executive posts. The project will be financed with a grant from the Sunstein Founda- tion.
