JWV Hits U.S. Role in German Play on Oswald WASHINGTON — Critical ques- tions about cooperation by the United States Embassy in Bonn with Germany in production of "Dallas — November 22nd," a play in "extremely bad taste about the assassination of President Ken- nedy," have been raised by the Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A. National Commander Milton A. Waldor said the play by former Nazi screen writer Felix Lutzken- dorf, who wrote Nazi propaganda screen plays, did not merit the cooperation of the American Embassy. The embassy provided pictures of President Kennedy and U.S. Marine uniforms used in the play. Commander Waldor said the play amounted to "nothing more than a semi-glorification and a semi-justification of Lee Harvey Oswald by depicting the assassin as an intelligent idealist whose guilt must be shared by society in general." U.S., Israel Elections to Be Aired by Farband Movsas Goldoftas, director of the Hayim Greenberg Hebrew-Yiddish School, will speak on the outcome of the elections in the United States and Israel at a Farband gathering 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the Labor Zionist Institute. Leave Everything to Us WYN and HAROLD LANDIS HOME CATERING Phone EL 6-8411 • STYLE • ELEGANCE • BEAUTY WYN-HAROLD CATERING THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, November 26, 1965-19 WASHINGTON — Reliable re- ports that Red Chinese military advisers are arriving in Syria were cited by National Command- er Milton A. Waldor of the Jewish War Veterans as confirmation of JWV warnings that Communist China is seeking to penetrate the Near East and foment an Arab "liberation war" against Israel. Waldor called attention to the arrival in Syria of 185 military ex- perts and technicians to assist the Communist-equipped Syrian mili- tary forces. He noted that 415 more are on the way to Syria from Peiping under a new Syrian- Chinese agreement. "It is obvious that Red China is trying to upstage Moscow in wooing Arab favor and wants to use Arab-Israel tensions as a springboard," said Waldor. He stressed that since Red China is exploiting the Arab-Israel conflict, "the United States should react immediately and affirma- tively to bolster Israel's military potential to quickly crush any Chinese-Syrian aggression." Commander Waldor pointed out that Red China "would like noth- ing better than to create a di- version in the Near East to esca- late tensions in the Mediterranean area so that American forces will be tied down in reserve at NATO bases and unable to answer rein- forcement calls to Vietnam." * * * `Mustn't Arm Germany With Nuclear Warheads' WASHINGTON (JTA) — A pro- posal that West Germany be equipped with long-range weapons armed with American nuclear warheads was attacked here by the national policy committee of the Jewish War Veterans in a statement issued after a policy meeting. The statement, commenting on a suggestion by a member of the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission, said America should cooperate in a defense of West Germany and Europe but retain possession and control of nuclear weapons to pre- vent escalation and proliferation. "Let us not forget that twice in this century, German militarists unleashed viciously irresponsible wars of aggression," the statement stressed. Menacing Climate on Vietnam Seen The American Jewish Congress believes that threats and pressures against critics of American policy . in Vietnam have evoked a "menac- ing climate" in which lawful dis- sent is punished as political dis- loyalty. In a resolution adopted by its national governing council, the AJ Congress said national leaders of both political parties had "forgot- ten or at least temporarily set aside" the principle of public de- bate of great national issues." "The desire of administration spokesmen to mobilize public en- dorsement for U.S. military inter- vention in Vietnam," the resolu- tion said, "has unhappily been ac- companied by an apparent willing- ness to countenance limitations on free speech and free assembly in- consistent with the tenets of an open society." The resolution called for "un- fettered public discussion of pub- lic issues—however shrill, irritat- ing and distasteful to those who may disagree." Deploring the role of govern- ment officials in "the evolution of a public mood in which any criti- cism of American foreign policy in the Far East becomes hazardous," the resolution cited statements by Attorney-General Nicholas deB. Katzenbach that demonstrators against U.S. policy in Vietnam might be prosecuted and by J. Ed- gar Hoover, director of the Fed- eral Bureau of Investigation, that Communists were exploiting the protest against the Vietnam fight- ting.
