University and Professional Chapter to Hear Panel on Inner-City Schools "Symposium on Inner City Schools" will be presented by the American Jewish Congress' Uni- versity and Professional Chapter 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Jewish Center. The symposium will be led by Julius Witherspoon, a member of the committee on intercity needs and an officer of CORE; Dr. Carl Marburger, former head of the Great Cities Project and presently assistant superintendent of schools in charge of special projects; and Roosevelt Brown of the Thirkell School Association and a member of the intercity needs committee. Moderator will be Irving Rubin of the Land Use Study Commis- sion, a vice president of Michigan Congress Council. The symposium has been planned to determine interest in and need for a tutoring program, currently under discussion' by the group. The public is invited. Refreshments will be served. Non-members will be charged a nominal guest fee. Other activities of the young adult chapter include a Sunday- afternoon bowling league, formed under the direction of the social committee. Both have directed experimental programs designed to aid the culturally deprived child. Sachs and Mrs. Ben Schottenfels Jr., leaders of the Detroit Section, National Coun- cil of Jewish Women, were cited as Volunteers of the Week by the Central Volunteer Bureau of United Community Services. The two women have totaled over 11,000 hours of service to the Detroit Section. Mrs. Schottenfels, president, has held a number of posts in the organization, as well as other communal activities; and Mrs. Sachs is vice president and board member of the Section and a leader in several other groups.
