SEVEN MILE AT WYOMING

By Danny Raskin
BEFORE SHE RETIRED about
a year ago, Agnes Chaike was head
chef at Joe Kopitzki's Lakepoint
Inn, 15203 E. Warren, and one of
the few women chefs employed in
Detroit's top restaurants .. . Pro-
fessional cooking is thoroughly
dominated by men . . . She had
been a cook for over a quarter
of a century and at Lakepointe
The heroic deeds of our pioneering airmen
in these AGED aircraft Were RARE indeed.
The culinary achievements of the chef at
3y,geb Aged & Rare are less spectacular but just
'Rare as great—try them'—you'll see.

since it was opened by Joe and
Barbara Kopitski 18 years ago .. .
The specialty of the house at the
Lakepointe is steak and lots of it
. . . Joe and Barbara serve seven
different kinds from hamburger to
porterhouse . . . The most popular
item is the small steak ... Actually,
small is a definite understatement
for the steak . . . The "small"
weighs about 14 ounces and its
vertical dimension is two inches
. . . The interesting thing about
the small steak is that it is not
the top rated steak on the menu
. . . However, although small, it is
not the cheapest . . When this
steak is broiled rare or even medi-
um rare, you will have to search a
long time for a better dish ... The
small steak comes from top sirloin
butts, picked for flavor, and the
chefs at Lakepointe Inn bring out
the very best in them . . . Joe
Kopitzki has a canny knowledge
of the restaurant business which
he comes by honestly . . . His
father and his grandfather were
both successful restaurant hosts
. . . Joe incidentally prides himself
on his martinis and manhattans.
ALLO PARIS French restaurant
on Livernois, closed a couple of
days, has been reopened.
DIETING WAS THE subject of
an after-dinner conversation by a
local group of friends . . . The
rather buxom hostess commented
that she had weighed only 98
pounds on her wedding day . .
"That's right," said her husband
with a grin. "That's the only in-
vestment I ever made that grew."
MURRY LIEBERMAN, favorite
Detroit restaurateur, has become
associated with Coveyou's Lounge
on Stephenson Hwy., between Eight
and Nine Mile Rds. . . . Remember
the Lieberman and Citron Restau-
rant, where you got food exactly
the way you wanted it cooked?
.. . Same policy holds forth now
at Coveyou's, a large beautiful spot
with glamorous architectural decor,
both inside and out . . . It has a
spacious bar, warm dining room,
modern kitchen and huge banquet
facilities.
SEEING SIGNS . . . by Sam
Dictor in a Los Angeles delicates-
sen window . . . "Our Swiss cheese
has 22 per cent fewer cavities."
FAST SERVICE carefully plan-
ned, along with the usual fine food,
will be featured at the new Mr.
Dubbs in Oak Park . . . The idea
for quick service has to do with
waitresses easily accessible at coun-
ters and booths—no tables . . .
Location of the new Mr. Dubbs is
in the shopping center on the
Southeast corner, Nine Mile and
Coolidge . . . It's the same Dave
Dubbs of the former beef buffet
on Seven Mile, and now the Coun-
try Kitchen on Greenfield and
10 Mile Rds.
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT • . .
Sammy Sofferin's Wonder Bar and
Steak House has certainly retained
its ranking as one of Detroit's finer
places to dine and dance ... The
food is excellent and the service
far above par . . . Dancing to the
versatile rhythms of the LaPlatas
is a wonderful experience . . . All
in all, we highly recommend
Sammy Sofferin's Wonder Bar and
Steak House for a topnotch eve-
ning.
STILL LOOKING for a better
name to this column ... any ideas?
