Third-Generation Alms Receipients: A Refugee's Testatment

Laurence MLchelmore, the commissioner general of the United
Nations Relief and Works Agency, informed the UN in his annual
report, which indicated that the refugees' numbers are growing
because of padding and also because their pariah status is being
perpetuated, that new rules for the UNRWA will include the third
generation of escapees from pre-Israel Palestine and nomadic Bedouins
who hitherto had no established residence which entitled them to
claim subsidies under refugee status.
The new regulations are truly intriguing. While until now a
refugee, to be able to acquire public aid, was to have had two years'
normal or legal residence in Palestine, now anyone who has ever
lived in Palestine but currently resides in a host country can receive relief
funds—and his descendants will be entitled to such funds. That's
how want and beggary is being Perpetuated_ under international
sponsorship.

is permitted to live in penury, without the right to move about, pinned
to their refugees' tents, only in order that a symbol of hatred for
Israel should be perpetuated. And many fair-minded Americans have
been misled by such propaganda tactics. A typ:cal example is the
series of articles in the Chicago Tribune by Chesly Manly who wrote

A Nasty Way to Treat a Distinguished Writer

Bridgeport Synagogue

BRIDGEPORT (JTA) — An at-

of Cong. Bikur Cholim here was

in three weeks. Two homemade
incendiary bombs were tossed into
the sanctuary, but only slight
ciarrage resulted.
City officials and leaders of the

of anti-Semitic manifestations. In

the synagogue of Cong. Bnai Israel

rogues, declaring them "deplor

community abhors."

Meanwhile there are repeated cries in defense of the refugees,
more than half of whom now are under 18 yars of age—in other
words, most of them are children of refugees who should have been
taught trades to support themselves but who are being kept in bondage
as weapons against Israel.
There are crocodile tears for them, and many who are misled
about their status really shed tears earnestly but without realizing

A. A. kibbutz is "a compania.,
Q. And what is a compania?
A. (shrugs); Don't know.
Q. Who won the war in Sinai, the Israelis or the Egyptians?
A. I understand nothing about politics.
Q. What did they teach you about this in school?
A. (relaxed) That I'll tell you exactly. It was like this: in 1956 Gamal Abdel
Nasser wanted to build the Aswam Dam and asked America for money. First
they said: all right, we'll give it to you. Afterwards they suddenly said; we
won't. So Nasser said: never mind, I don't need you. He took the Suez Canal
and used the money the passing boats paid for building the dam. Then Eng-
land, France, and Israel got together in order to take the Canal away from
Nasser. When they attacked the Egyptian army that stood in Sinai, it re-
turned immediately to Egypt, and the Israeli army had no trouble crossin g
because all the soldiers were in Suez. Then the English and French
gave
Nasser an ult,:natum and said that if he would not surrender within twenty-
four hours, they would make Egypt like a cemetery. Then Gamal Abdel
Nas-
ser went and made a big
speech on the radio and said that they should
fight until the last drop of blood, and he would also put on his battle dress
and go to shoot the imperialists. Then the Russians came and said: stop, or
we'll intervene. The English and French were afraid and left Egypt. On
March 7 the Israelis left Gaza on UN orders.
Q. Do you read any books, Abdallah?
A. No. Books cost money, and I have no money.
Q. Just the same, what is the last book you read?
A. Once I read a book about an Englishman named David Copperfield. A
very nice and sad book.
Q. And newspapers?
A. (frightened) Good God no! If they catch a refugee reading a newspaper
regularly, they say right away that he's a Zionist spy.
Q. Do you have a girl friend?
A. (shy) No. There are a lot of bachelors in Gebeliya, for the bride money
for a girl is a thousand Egyptian pounds, and only someone who has an orange
grove or a cinema can afford that kind of money.
Q. When you crossed the border to Israel, weren't you afraid that you
would be beaten?
A. (excitedly) I believe that you are good people. Why should you beat me?
And really, they didn't even touch me with a little finger. I want to stay here
and do any kind of work I can get. I can be a good worker.
Q. What will your father do when he learns that you crossed into Israel?
A. (indifferently) Maybe, maybe he already died from anger.
Q. And what will happen to you if you are returned to Gaza?
A. (closes his eyes and his hands tremble) They'll beat me half to death.
(explains) in Gaza I feel worthless, my life is empty and there is no future.
Q. Where would you like to live. apart from Israel?
A. In Kuwait or in Saudi Arabia. There is a lot of work and money there.
Q. Is money the most important thing in life?
A. (without hesitation) Of course. When a man has no money, how do you
expect him to live?
Q. Have you heard how Israel treats the Arabs that live here?
A. I have heard nothing about it. But by what I see for myself, it's quite all
right. When they arrested us, I saw Bedouin standing and talking with Jews,
just like that, quietly, like friends. They were nicely dressed and smoked
good
cigarettes.
-
Q. Do you know that some Israeli Arabs cross over into Arab countries?
A. (much surprised) No!
Q. Yes, there are some.

Pope Paul VI Proclaims An End to Charge
of Jew's Collective Guilt in Jesus' Crucifixion

Such attested testimony must not be ignored and should not be
taken lightly. Refugees have been and continue to be Dawns in a

Vatican City in celebration of mass at a public session of the Ecumenical Council. The public session was
called for the proclamation absolving Jews of collective guilt in the crucifixion of Christ, a
much-
debated decision.
