LOCAL HUBBY is an extreme
hypochondriac, and his wife had
recently just about reached the
end of her patience . . . Then she
decided to pretend to be ill her-
self, hoping he might be so con-
cerned about her that he'd forget
his own ailments . . . So one even-
ing she greeted him with a recital
of how miserable she felt . . . He
was unusually quiet during dinner,
and she thought perhaps her ruse
was working . . . But she was
soon disillusioned . . . "I don't
know what's wrong with me," he
groaned. "I think I must be coming
down with what you've got."
HITCHIKING FROM Santa Fe
to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the
late afternoon, 22-year-old Dennis
G o u 1 d, son of Harriet and Ed
Gould, wrote . home about finally
being picked up by a man in a big
convertible There was little
traffic and they sped along with-
out much talk . . . Suddenly the
driver threw on his brakes, stopped
and then backed up for about 100
yards . . . Unlocking the glove
compartment, he pulled out a re-
volver . . . As Dennis froze in his
seat too scared to even yank open
the door and get away, the man
took aim out of his window and
shot twice . . . As he put the gun
away, he said, "Son, never leave
a rattler on the road—alive!"

THEY SAY LIGHTNING never
strikes twice in the same place,
but Arnie Aisen only believes half
of it at the Hollywood Mirror Gal-
lery in the Green-8 Shopping Cen-
ter . . . A few months ago, we
wrote about a box of glass falling
from its hoist and crashing down-
ward . . . without a single piece
breaking . . . It happened again
last week . . . This time, however,
there was broken glass.
AMAZING THE wonderful ma-
terial on Judaism furnished by the
Jewish Community Council . . .
Never knew such marvelous infor-
mation was available . . . Greek
friend of Bernie Kerner at Dar-
bys has a keen desire to under-
stand the fundamentals and teach-
ings of all races and religions .. .
Bernie got him a book on the Pic-
torial History of The Jew and we
called Betty Shepherd, executive
director Walter Klein's secretary
at the Council . . •. The material
sent us was so good that we hated
to part with the pamphlets and
books ... Bernie, too . . . However,
there's ,plenty _ more and we've
already put in our request for the
excellent and most informative
reading material.
WHILE WAITING outside the
Dexter-Davison Market last week,
Morton Stone watched as a boy
about 8 in the car parked along-
side his was wildly twisting
the steering and uttering motor
like sounds . . . Mortie watched
him awhile, then leaned over and
said, "Hey, fellow, you better stick
your arm out when you go round
a curve or you'll get a ticket."' .
The lad regarded Mortie scornfully
"Look, bub," he said, "you
stick your arm out a space ship

apd ,yeu'll,-have .it ripped ,off."
