Tribute to Harry and Adele Mondry Avern Cohns to Host
Set for Hayim Greenberg School Event Shaarey Zedek's

Hayim Greenbeerg School's Gold-
en Jubilee dinner Nov. 14 at the
Labor Zionist Institute will be
highlighted by a tribute to Harry
and Adele Mondry for four decades
of service to the Jewish com-
munity, the Labor Zionist move-
ment and the Hayim Greenberg
School.
Both members of this husband-
wife team have occupied positions
of leadership since coming to De-
troit after World War I. Original-
ly enrolled as members of the
Zirey Zion, they joined Poale Zion

when the two organizations merged
in the early 1930s and were found-
ing members of the Farband Arla-
zaroff Branch No. 137 when it was
created in 1934.
In addition to their activity in
the school's day to day operation,
they have each served as president
of Branch 2, LZOA. Mrs. Mondry
has also been president of Club 2,
Pioneer Women's Organization, and
is currently vice president of the
Detroit Council of Pioneer Women
and a member of the Central Com-
mittee, Labor Zionist Organization
of America.
Mondry presided over the Arla-
zaroff Branch for several years and
served as president of the Hayim
Greenberg School from 1948 to
1956.
Their two sons and six grand-

Bernard S. Kahn, 29545 Sugar

appointed by Attorney General
Frank J. Kelley as special assistant
attorney general.
Kahn will represent the state of
Michigan in civil actions to be as-
signed by Kelley's office.
Kahn, a trial lawyer with offices

Lawyers Association, and the Mich-
igan, Detroit and Oakland County
Bar Associations.
A former instructor at Wayne
State University, he is serving a
four-year term on the Wayne State
University Law School Alumni

John Spencer, to
Speak at Beth El

John Spencer Churchill, nephew
of the late British prime minister,
will speak at the annual pair-up
membership luncheon of Temple
Beth El Sisterhood noon, Nov. 8.
A distinguished writer and paint-
er in his own right, John Church-
ill was in unique and intimate
touch with Sir Winston through-
out the great leader's most active
years. It was Sir Winston who first
encouraged his nephew to paint
and inspired him to write.

Author of "The Churchill Can-
vas," John Spencer was educated
at Harrow and Oxford and stu-
died painting, sculpture and
architecture in a r t centers
throughout Europe. During
World War II he served in Brit-
ish counterintelligence and took
part in the evacuation of Dun-
kirk. He now makes his home in
the south of France.
