Israel Acclaims Bar-Ilan. University
on 10th Year; Detroiters Attend Fete;
Local Celebration Dinner Planned
Detroiters who are now touring
Israel with the United Jewish
Appeal mission were major part-
icipants in the celebration of the
tenth anniversary of Bar-Ilan Uni-
versity, held
Tuesday in Tel
Aviv, at t h e
Sheraton Hotel.

Phillip Stollman, who heads the
American Committee for Bar-Ilan
University, and his associates in
the mission, took active part in a
special ceremony taking note of
Detroit's role in the university's
upbuilding.
An assembly of friends of the
American-sponsored university
and members of the United
Jewish Appeal Study Mission
attended the dedication of the
four-story Stollman Administra-
tion Building, a gift of the Stoll-
man family; the three-story
glass-fronted Stern Physics
Building; and the Ann Lauter-
man Psychological Institute.
The ribbon for the physics build-
ing was cut by Mr. and Mrs. Stern
in memory of Stern's late parents
and brother. The Psychological
Institute was a gift of 85-year-old
Miss Lauterman of Montreal, who
was unable to come to Israel for
the occasion.
The ribbon was cut for her by
Rabbi Seymour Zambrowsky of
Montreal and Robert Regere, the
Canadian ambassador to Israel.
Dr. Joseph H. Lookstein, presi-
dent of Bar-Ilan, greeted the gath-
ering and analyzed the univer-
sity's importance to Israel and to
world Jewry.
Dr. Lookstein will be one of the
speakers at the annual dinner of
Bar-Ilan University, in Cobo Hall
on Nov. 30, when Governor
George Romney will be presented
by Dr. Lookstein with a Bar-Ilan
Fellowship.
Other participants in the Nov. 30
dinner will be Rabbi Morris Adler,
who will be the principal speaker;
Samuel Frankel, chairman of the
dinner committee, Stollman and
Max Fisher, honorary chairman of
the committee.
Jewish Meals

DEVILLED PARSNIPS
P4 lbs. medium-sized parsnips
3 tablespoons butter or parve
margarine
3 tablespoons dark brown sugar
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1?4 tablespoons minced parsley
3 /4 teaspoon dry mustard
3/4 teaspoon salt
3 /4 teaspoon pepper
Cook the parsnips until tender-crisp.
They may be scraped before cooking
or cooked in their skins, then peeled.
Cut each parsnip into pieces about
11/2 inches long, then cut each piece
into quarters, lengthwise. If any have
a tough, woody core, remove it. If you
wish to cook the parsnips in advance,
spread them in a shallow dish while
storing. Melt the butter or marga-
rine in a large skillet over medium
heat. Add the parsnips and sautee for
5 minutes. Turn over gently to brown
evenly. Meanwhile, combine all the
remaining ingredients. Pour over the
parsnips and stir gently for 3 minutes.
This amount serves 5.
PARSNIP AND PINEAPPLE
CAS SEROLE
11/2 pounds parsnips
1 cup well-drained pineapple tidbits
1 cup syrup from can of pineapple
tidbits
1 cup sugar
1 ,4 teaspoon salt
Cook the parsnips until tender-crisp.
They may be scraped before cooking
or cooked in their skins, then peeled.
Cut, crosswise, into rounds I, inch
thick. Place half in a well-oiled 1-
quart casserole. Cover evenly with
half the pineapple tidbits. Add an-
other layer of the remaining parsnips
and a layer of the remaining tidbits.
Boil the pineapple syrup, the sugar,
and the salt together over medium-
low heat for 5 minutes. Pour over the
parsnips and pineapple. Cover the
casserole and bake at 350° F. for 25
minutes. You may prepare the cas-
