The Council resolution urged
support of legislative and civil
efforts designed to broaden and
guarantee the fulfillment of neces-
sary social goals in such areas as
housing, education and employ-
ment. As ways of achieving this,
the Council stressed the im-
portance of dealing only with
places of business, including pub-
lic accommodations, which follow
a policy of nondiscrimination in
employment and in service. All
available resources must be used
"promptly and effectively," to
speed the `normalization" of
Negroes and other deprived and
excluded people in the mainstream
of American society, the Council
stated.

Proposes Emotional Education
Courses in Our Public Schools
Editor. The Jewish News:
I fully agree with your statement
in the Oct. 15 issue of The
Detroit Jewish News that ".
one wonders whether we will ever
be able to legislate against hate.
How can any investigation force
the Dragon (KKK) or any one else
to stop hating?"
As a teacher in a high school I
continually encounter individuals
whose religion is hatred and whose
god is prejudice. Though I feel
sorry and contempt for them, and
see no remedy that would rid them
of their emotional sickness, I do
think that something can be done
about this grave problem.
I propose that required mental
and emotional education courses
on an organized and systematic
basis be established in the kinder-
garten and continued each semester
on an advanced level in each grade
throughout the child's years in the
elementary and secondary schools.
Human relations clubs, one a year
"brotherhood weeks," and oc-
casion mention in textbooks of
minority contributions — are all
for the birds. The child must be
imbued with a sense of justice and
respect for all people while his
mind is still healthy and respon-
sive.
Respectfully
