Miss Izner, is a senior at the
University of Michigan, where she
is affiliated with Sigma Delta Tau
Sorority. Mr. Serwin is a student
at the University of Michigan's
medical school and will be gradu-
ated next June. A Dec. 22 wed-
ding is planned.

Mrs. Nate H. Schlafer, past president of the Michigan Region,
Women's American ORT, will deliver the invocation at the opening,
night banquet of the 18th biennial national convention of the organiza-
tion Oct. 25-28 in Pittsburgh. Other Detroit delegates to the convention
which will be addressed by Supreme Court Justice William 0. Douglas,
include Mrs. William Wetsman, Michigan Reigon president; Mrs.
Harry Becker of the national executive board; national board mem-
bers Mrs. Henry Pariser, Mrs. Irvin Kurtz and Mrs. Lawrence Levi;
chapter presidents Mesdames Robert Kahn, Darwin Canvasser, Howard
Finsilver, Harold Kukes, Donald Ketai, Donald Thal and Sol Cohen;
and Mesdames Harold Schwartz, Bernard Zafferin, Bernard Colton,
Daniel Siegel, Eugene Levine, Harvey Gordenker, Sidney Gersh, Ruth
Lewinson, Norman Steinberg, Jack Rubin, David Redisch, Jack L.
Cohen, Leonard Schreiber, Mark Jacobson, Earl Krause, Fred Borson
and Wilfred Katz. Mesdames Harry Becker and Henry Pariser were
also delegates to the International ORT Congress recently in Rome.
To commemorate the 59th anniversary of the founding of Alpha
Epsilon Phi Sorority, the Detroit Alumnae Association will hold a tea
Sunday afternoon at the home of Mrs. John Charles Hopp, 19470
Shrewsbury. Mrs. Hopp is an alumna of Pi Chapter at the University
of Michigan. Honored will be the chapter advisers at University of
Michigan and Michigan State University, Muriel Frank Fisher of
Briarcliff Rd., Lois Levinson of Ann Arbor and Sue Fechheimer Welch
of Lansing. Pouring at the tea table will be Mrs. Stanley Rosenberg,
Detroit area president, and Mrs. Michael Travis of Franklin, former
president of the Detroit Panhellenic Association.
Out-of-town guests here for the Bar Mitzvah of Daryl Sklar, son
of the David Sklars of Dartmouth Ave., Oak Park, were Dr. and Mrs.
Benjamin Levin of Los Angeles, Mr. and Mrs. I. Kaplan of Israel and
Dr. and Mrs. Irving Kallen and Mr. and Mrs. Samson Blacher of Chicago.
Cornfield Family Club will meet 8 p.m. Sunday at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cornfield, 13681 Elgin, Oak Park. Nominations
and election of officers will be held.
Alpha Theta chapter, Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher's Sorority,
initiated new members Sunday at the home of Frances Weinberg, 17381
Evans, Southfield.

A strong effort will be made
by the Detroit Chapter of the
American Jewish Committee to
actively support efforts to give
qualified Negro candidates an op-
portunity to be heard in white
neighborhoods.
Detroit Chapter President Rob-
ert Alpern, in a letter to all chap-
ter members, stated the executive
board is endorsing a recent state-
ment of the Citizens Committee
on Equal Opportunity which urges
a fuller hearing fOr Negro can-

didates for Common Council Nov. 2.
Rabbi Morris Adler is co-chairman
of the Citizens Committee.
