4 1111•1 ■ 11111 Moscow Chief Rabbi Loses Aide to Israel JERUSALEM (JTA ) —Mord e ch a i Chazanin, secretary to Moscow's Chief Rabbi Yehuda Leib Levin, ar- rived in Israel two weeks ago, after obtaining the Soviet Union's per- mission to emigrate. Chazanin, a member of the Cha- bad Hassidic group, is believed to have received permission to leave the USSR through intermediaries acting on behalf of Rabbi Mena- chem Schneerson, of Brooklyn, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who is the acknowledged leader of Chabad. The former secretary to Chief Rab- bi Levin speaks Hebrew fluently, with a Sephardic accent. He came here accompanied by his wife and 9-year-old daughter. It is understood here that, since Chazanin's departure from Moscow, Chief Rabbi Levin has been with- out a secretary. ELECT BLAIR MOODY, JR. 115th anniversary 8:30 p.m. today. The synagogue itself was packed with 3,000 persons attending the three-hour services with many more unable to enter. The assembly was about the APPRECIATED same size as that of last year's Moscow celebration, but the per- centage of young Jews was higher, the reports stated. Some youths brought guitars, and one brought a tape recorder on which he had recorded Yiddish melodies. Two spotlights on the syna- gogue portico picked out light E- N snow falling on the crowd, which filled almost the entire block of the Arkhipova Street in down- town Moscow. Traffic stopped at both ends of the street. A few policemen wandered through the crowd but no one seemed to pay them any attention. The high proportion of young people in the crowd was inter- preted by foreign observers in Moscow as confirming the reports People like you are the reason El that a feeling of Jewish identity is Al's flying.
