2 Children's Days Set for Book Fair The 14th Annual Jewish Book Fair, to be held at the Jewish Center Nov. 13-21 will have many activities for children. Mrs. Bruce Thal, chairman of the Book Fair children and youth committee, reported that both Sundays (Nov. 14 and 21) of the fair will be devoted to children, with puppet shows each day. The Mildred Berry Puppets will starred in "G'Dee Celebrates the Holidays," and author Martha Marenof will tell stories after each show. In addition, Detroiter Miriam Selker Dodek, author of "River of Wonders—Stories of the Nile," will lecture to Sunday school class groups that have been invited to the Fair. Mrs. Dodek has traveled in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Far East. The 42-member Detroit group is led by Walter Field and George Stutz. The 12-member New Jersey group is from Essex County. The groups will be briefed dur- ing their 12-day and 14-day stay, respectively, on Jewish affairs and UJA and JDC matters and have the opportunity to study im- migrant absorption at first hand. Fisher, Avrunin Named on CJFWF Assembly Program Max M. Fisher, chairman of the executive committee of the Jewish Welfare Federation of Detroit, will present a major address at the 34th general assembly of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel, Montreal, Nov. 11. William Avrunin, Federation executive di- rector, will present a paper at the Assembly oneg shabbat, Nov. 13. Fisher, who is general chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, treasurer of the Jewish Agency, and a board member of the Coun- cil, will address the opening gen- eral session on the subject, "Over- seas Changes and Prospects," and will detail the overseas outlook, programs and responsibilities for the coming year, and the role which North American Jewish communities will play in meeting these, needs. Avrunin's address will concern itself with "Jewish Education — Bringing Relevance and'Quality to Reality." He will discuss the rela- tionship of the organized Jewish community to local Jewish educa- tion programs. Concurrently with the Assem. bly, the Large City Budgeting Con- ference will hold major meetings, during which the 23 largest wel- fare funds will undertake review of 1966 budgets of cooperating na- tional and overseas agencies. Mrs. Comay to Address UN Chapter at Luncheon Session During UN Week Joan Comay, the wife of Israel Ambassador to the United Nations Michael Comay, will address the Detroit Chapter of the United Na- tions Association, at the luncheon of the all-day conference in Rack- ham Auditorium, noon Oct. 26. marking the observance of UN Week Oct. 24-30. Mrs. Comay was born in the Union of South Africa and re- ceived a degree in architecture from Capetown University. Shortly after World War II she and her • lawyer - husband settled in Pal- estine where she became a driver for the under- ground ground forces working for Is- r a e l's indepen- dence. In 1950, Mrs. Comay's husband Mrs. Comay was appointed Ambassador to Can- ada, and Mrs. Comay became a much sought-after lecturer there. Since 1960, Mr. Comay has been Ambassador to the United Nations from Israel. Mrs. Comay has had articles in "Holiday" magazine and other major publications. Her book, "Ev- eryone's Guide to Israel," pub- lished by Doubleday, has had wide readership. Recently she finished a children's book on Israel.
