Eichmann Captor
Says He Knows
Where Bormann Is

NEW YORK (JTA) — Tuvia
Friedman, director of the Nazi
War Crimes Documentation Center
in Haifa, said that Israeli officials
know "exactly where" Hitler's
deputy Martin Bormann is in Ar-
gentina and for "a $50,000 reward
we could get him overnight."
Friedman, who had a key role
in hunting down Adolf Eichmann,
said the problem was that "nobody
wants Bormann" because the for-
mer Hitler deputy "is an interna-
tional criminal and it would be up
to Germany or England or the
United States to punish him."
Ile said that "after the Eich-
mann trial, they want none of
this trouble, none of this heart-
ache; but as for me, I still keep
an eye on him."
Friedman came to the United
States to attend the letter auction
where letters of Jacqueline Ken-
nedy and Lee Oswald were auc-
tioned. A letter by Eichmann in
red ink, written in his prison cell
to Friedman, was among the items
at the auction.
The four-page letter was writ-
ten about four months before Eich-
mann was executed in Israel in
May, 1962. The letter sought to
place the blame for the Nazi mur-
der of 6,000,000 European Jews on
Hitler and other top Nazis. The
letter was sold for $1,000 at the
auction.

Erhard Ignores Protocol,
Holds Special Meeting
With Israel Envoy to Bonn

BONN (JTA) — The repeatedly
postponed first meeting between
Asher Ben-Nathan, Israel's ambas-
sador to West Germany, and Chan-
cellor Ludwig Erhard was finally
held last weekend on a special re-
quest by the chancellor.
The usually routine initial meet-
ing between the Israeli ambassa-
dor and West Germany's chief ex-
ecutive was postponed repeatedly
after the Israeli envoy's arrival
earlier this year.
The first reason for the post-
ponement was given by West Ger-
man officials as the parliamentary
election campaign which ended
Sept. 19 with Chancellor Erhard's
Christian Democratic Union re-
taining its position as the dominant
political party in the federal re-
public.
After the election, the explana-
tion was given that protocol re-
quired that the chancellor receive
six envoys ahead of the Israeli.
The chancellor bypassed protocol
in requesting the meeting which
lasted 30 minutes. No information
on the content of the talk was re-
1 eased.
