Young Israel Center of Northwest
Detroit will dedicate and complete
a new Sefer Torah 2:30 p.m. Oct.
31. Presented by Leon and Bernie
Goldman and their families, the
scroll will memorialize the mem-
bers of the Goldman family who
died in Europe.
The Torah Scroll was hand-writ-
ten in Jerusalem, and as is custom-
ary with all new sacred scrolls,
the beginning and closing sentences
of the Bible were written in out-
line form so that individuals to be
present at the dedication ceremony
may participate in its writing.
Rev. Philip Hausman will serve
as scribe.
Rabbi Samuel Prero and Ru-
dolph Kar, acting president of
Young Israel of Northwest, invite
the community to be present. The
Sisterhood of Young Israel, headed
by Mrs. Harry Portnoy, will pro-
vide refreshments.
