"Rosh Hashanah" means literally
"head of the year," or as we say
nowadays New Year's Day. It is
celebrated for two days even in
Israel, where all other holidays are
only celebrated for one day, be-
cause in ancient times it was not
exactly known when the new moon
came out to start the new month,
the first day of the month of
Tishri.
