The volume dissects the personali- ties, procedures and proprieties in- volved in the trial of the man who killed President Kennedy's assas- sin. The authors capture the circus- like atmosphere of the Ruby case. They describe a trial in which the defendant paled into insignificance beside his attorneys, his family, his psychiatrists, his judge and his jury. Beginning with the assassi- nation of the President, the shoot- ing of Lee Harvey Oswald and Ruby's arrest, they examine the life and personality of Ruby. Kaplan and Waltz discuss the defense and prosecution strategies, Texas law, last-minute tactical changes, the court's charge, the verdict and the sentence. Kaplan is professor of law at Stanford University, formerly at Northwestern. Waltz is a partner in a law firm, and professor of law at Northwestern.
