Department Commander Charles Isackson and Department Presi- dent Mrs. Jerry Dale of Michigan Jewish War Veterans are leading the state's delegation to JWV's 70th annual national convention at the Concord Hotel, Kiamesha Lake, N.Y. through Sunday. Approximately 75 delegates from Michigan's 14 posts and auxiliaries are attending. Mrs. John Nemon, a past president of the Michigan Department, is a candidate for the office of national president. A two-day national conference of the Combined Campaign will follow at Kuschers Country Club in Mon- ticello, N.Y. Sisterhoods to be represented are Ahavas Achim, Adas Shalom and Bnai Moshe. Eric Friedland Will Teach Hebrew, Jewish History Courses at Wayne U. Dr. Jacob Lassner, acting chair- man of the department of Near Eastern languages and literatures at Wayne State University, an- nounced this week that Eric Fried- land will be here for a year to teach courses in elementary and intermediate Hebrew, as well as a course in Jewish history to be given Monday and Wednesday evenings, 8:10 to 9:50, at 211 State Hall. This last course, Dr. Lassner said, is not in the official time schedule but one can register for it as Near Eastern Studies, 0565, section no. 4685. Dr. Lassner is acting chairman of the Near Eastern department in the absence of Dr. Abram Spiro who is away on a year's sabbatical. ALAN GREENWALD In a candlelight ceremony at Adas Shalom Synagogue, Carol Anne Schultz became the bride of Alan J. Greenwald Sunday. Rabbi Jacob E. Segal and Cantor Nicholas Fenakel officiated. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. Schultz of Indiana Ave. and Mr. and Mrs. William Greenwald of Stansbury Ave. The bride wore a gown of peau de soie with a Sabrina neckline. The Empire bodice had a narrow cumerbund of crystals and pearls, accented by a Wateau chapel train. Brina Hellman served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. David Steinhardt and Mrs. Al- bert Sasson, sisters of the bride, Marlene Kutnick and Gloria Weinman. Madelyne Plotkin served as junior bridesmaid. Following a honeymoon in New York, the couple will reside on Greenfield Rd. The new instructor, Eric Fried land, is 25. He received his BA degree from Boston University, majoring in philosophy and reli- gion, and also holds a Bachelor's degree from Hebrew Teachers Col- lege of Boston. He received both degrees in 1960. Since then he has studied in the department of Near Eastern and Judaic studies at Brandeis University, obtaining his Master's degree in 1962 and due soon to receive his PhD.
