Border Roads Built in Israel
All of the roads built by the
Jewish National Fund in the past
four years have been located along,
the borders or in hitherto inacces-
sible mountain regions in Galilee,
Judea and the Negev.

Holiday Deadlines
for Jewish News

Due to the occurrence of
the High Holy Days on Sept.
27-28 and Oct. 6, The Jewish
News has set early deadlines
for its issues of Oct. 1 and 8.
Deadline o_n copy, photo-
: graphs and display ads for
the issue of Oct. 1 will be
noon Friday, Sept. 24. It is
advised that classified ads
be placed as early as pos-
sible to avoid the last-minute
rush Wednesday, Sept. 29.
For the issue of Oct. 8,
copy must be submitted no
later than 9 a.m. Monday,
Oct. 4. As usual, photographs
will be due the preceding
Friday. The classified ad
deadline for the issue of
Oct. 8 will be noon Tuesday;
display ads, 4 p.m. Monday.

800 Rabbis Back Call
for Zionist Identification

NEW YORK (JTA) — More than
800 rabbis of the three branches
of American Judaism — Orthodox,
Conservative and Reform — from
44 states, signed a proclamation
calling upon "our fellow-Jews
throughout the United States to
identify themselves with the pro-
gram of the Zionist Organization
of America through membership
enrollment, as a vital service to
the progress of Israel and the
future of our people."
The proclamation, made public
by Jacques Torczyner, ZOA pres-
ident, emphasized that, while the
state of Israel in its 18th year "has
increased its strength," it faces
many problems in the areas of
its security and economic growth.
Rabbis from Michigan who
joined in the call included David
S. Bakst, Leon Fram, Benjamin
Gorrelick, Morton M. Kanter, Sey-
mour M. Panitz, A. Irving Schnip-
per, M. Robert Syme, David Jessel
and Moses Lehrman, all of the
Detroit area; Yitzhak I. Dick, Ben-
ton Harbor; Joseph Katz, Saginaw;
Myron B. Movsky, Kalamazoo; and
Israel Goodman, Pontiac.
