Chesed shel Emes Gets $35,000 Gift

Philip Langwald (center), president of the Hebrew Benevolent
Society (Chesed shel Emes), accepts General Motors and Detroit
Edison Co. stock valued at $35,000 from David S. Levi (left) and
Earl Victorson, attorneys for the executor for the late Samuel Book-
man, who made the bequest in his will. Langwald said the money will
be applied to reduce the mortgage on the new building recently
erected on Greenfield near 14 Mile Rd. "It is gratifying to be remem-
bered in this most worthy purpose, and I hope it will inspire others
to do zedakah in making their wills in keeping with the best and
noblest of our tradition," Langwald said. Mr. Bookman died May 3,
1964 at age 80, a widower with no heirs.
