`The Creation' - Israeli Festival Stamps

"The Creation" symbolizes the new series of Israeli festival
stamps to be issued for the approaching Holy Days. The motif is
symbolical on the series of six which are multicolored, including
gold. A. Kalderon is the designer.

Holy Day Stamps
Issued by JNF

Congregations throughout De-
troit and out-state will again follow
the tradition preceding the High
Holy Days by cooperating with the
Jewish National Fund land program

JNF stamps by their members, it
is announced by Judge Burton R.
Shifman, JNF president. •
Each stamp is to be issued as a
receipt in acknowledgement of a
fitting contribution to the cause of
"Geulath Ha'aretz," the JNF pro-
gram of land reclamation.
Phillip Stollman and Harry Co-
hen are co-chairmen of the religious
groups committee.
Stollanan and Cohen have asked
ticket committees to call UN 4-
2767, or write the JNF office, 18414
Wyomipg, if they have not received
their supply, or if they require
additional stamps.
The JNF will again issue a tree
certificate as a New Year greeting
to relatives and friends. The certi-
ficate will be available at $2 per
tree.

troit schools, he

judgment in traf-

signed to the Office of Naval In-
telligence in World War II, he ac-
companied the Senate War In-
vestigating Committee to war-torn
areas in Europe and saw first-hand
the atrocities committed in such
places as Dachau.
He is a member of the State Bar
of Michigan, Detroit Bar Associa-
tion and American Trial Lawyers
Association; and is recommended
by labor, businessmen, veteran and
civic organizations in the Detroit
area.

Thirteen Americans will meet
with Israeli and European leaders
in Jerusalem from Sunday through
Tuesday to. plan for an Interna-
tional Conference of Jewish Com-
munal Service.

Scholarship Fund Named for Sharett

TEL AVIV (JTA)—The scholar-
ship fund of the America-Israel
Cultural Foundation has been
named the Moshe Sharett Fund for
Young Artists, in memory of the
late chairman of the Jewish Agency
executive and former Israeli pre-
mier.
Israeli Supreme Court Justice
Moshe Landau made the announce-
ment at a concert last weekend
in honor of the 25th anniversary
of the Foundation. Violinist Isaac
Stern, president of the Founda-
tion, was welcomed by Justice
Landau. The jurist also announced
that the Foundation would in-
crease its activities in fields in
which it is currently not partici-
pating.
A special appeal, headed by
Shimon Peres, former deputy de-
fense minister, has been launched
to increase the Israeli share of
financing the Foundation's budget
from about 20 per cent to 50 per
cent.
Dr. Yeshayahu Shapiro, chair-
man of the scholarship fund, said
that; in its 10 years, the fund had
distributed 750,000 Israeli pounds

($250,000) to 1,634 young Israeli
artists. He said that this year 322
young Israelis have won scholar-
ships.
