MRS. ALAN GILBERT

Marilyn Judith Hencken became
the bride Sunday of Alan A. Gil-
bert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Gilbert of the Bronx, in a cere-
mony at Raleigh House solemnized
by Rabbis Leon Fram and M. Rob-
ert Syme and Cantor Harold Or-
bach.
The bride, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Bernard Hencken of York
Rd., Huntington Woods, wore a tra-
ditional gown of silk organza over
taffeta, styled with a scoop neck-
line, pouf sleeves, fitted bodice and
a controlled bell-shaped skirt. Ap-
pliques of Chantilly lace and
Venice flowers .a d o r n e d the
sleeves, skirt hemline and the re-
movable full chapel-length train.
She carried orchids and Stephano-
tis on her Bible.

Mrs. Maynard Kalef, the
bride's sister, served as her
matron of honor; her brides-
maids were Ellen Kalef, Nancy
Israel, Lane Emmer, Ann Kat-
kowsky and Linda Woghin of
Yonkers, N. Y.

Best man for his brother was
Elias Joel Gilbert of the Bronx.
His ushers included his brother-
in-law, Martin Stein of Bowie, Md.;
the bride's brother, Robert Law-
rence Hencken; Milan Bartek;
Michael Wagner of Ann Arbor and
Burton Fogelman.
The couple will reside in Ann
Arbor, where they attend the Uni-
versity of Michigan.

Major FRANKLIN I. SIDLOW,
information staff officer for the
Michigan Air National Guard, has
just completed 15 days of annual
active duty at Phelps Collins Air
National Guard Base in Alpena.
A member of the National Guard
since his return from active duty
with the U.S.A.F. in 1955, he is
rated radar observer with some
1,500 hours flying time He now
co-ordinates all press, radio, tele-
vision and other media recruiting
releases. With his wife, Marjorie,
and children, Thomas and Eliza-
beth, Major Sidlow resides at
20295 Beaverland.

Three salesmen from the De-
troit area ranked among Indian-
apolis Life Insurance Co.'s leading
salesmen for July, Arnold Berg,
vice president and director of
agencies, announced. DAVID LIP-
PITT, 21656 Church, Oak Park,
was the company's top salesman
in Michigan, and ranked fourth in
the nation. He is a member of the
Gordon Meisner Agency in South-
field. DON H U F F, 20417 Gill
Road, Livonia, was eighth in the
nation. He is a member of the

HARRY H. PLATT, prominent
Detroit attorney and labor arbitra-
tor, has been elected as alternate
member of the Central Board of
the World ORT Union. He was a
member of the U. S. delegation to
the 85th anniversary congress of
the Jewish vocational training
agency, held in Rome earlier this
summer, where he served as a
member of the working commis-
sion on problems of vocational edu-
cation in Israel, India and Iran.

A Brandeis University anthro-
pologist has been awarded a grant
from the National Science Founda-
tion for a unique pilot study of
computor techniques in archaelogy.
Dr. GEORGE L. COWGILL, assis-
tant professor of anthropology, is
working with Dr. Rene Millon of
the University of Rochester in the
detailed mapping of Teotihuacan,
an ancient city covering nearly
nine square miles in the Valley of
Mexico.

With her uncle and cousin, Rab-
bis Isaac and Samuel Stollman,
officiating, the marriage of Sandra
P. Stollman, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Max Stollman of Burton Rd.,
Oak Park, and Robert A. Green-
stone, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Greenstone of Rochester, N.Y., was
solemnized Aug. 10 at the Shera-
ton-Cadillac Hotel.
The bride wore an ivory rose
pointe gown with Chantilly lace
over silk organza. The gown was
fashioned with bateau sleeves and
a cathedral - length Watteau back
train.
Mrs. Bernard Stollman was
matron of honor. Bridesmaids were
Myra Selesny, Beverly Stone, Bar-
bara Paskell of New York, Rochelle
Stollman, Marjorie Townes of Ro-
chester and Mrs. Sharon Hart.
Melvin Kaner was best man.
Ushers were Philip Townes of Ro-
chester, Tom Kessler, Bernard
Stollman, Gerald Stollman, Jack
Kane and Jerry Goodwin.
Out-of-town guests included Rab-
bi and Mrs. S. Zambrowski and son,

After a honeymoon in Hawaii,
the couple plans to live in Livo-
nia.

The United Hebrew Schools an-
nounces the appointment of Dr.
Irving Panush as assistant super-
intendent.
A graduate of the University of
Michigan, where he received his
BA, MA and PhD, Dr. Panush
also is a graduate of Yeshiva Uni-
versity of New York. He was the
recipient of the Horace H. Rack-
ham Graduate School Pre-Doctoral
Fellowship and the John Hay Fel-
low (Ford Foundation) Studies in
the Humanities.
He has taught in the Detroit pub-
lic schools, University of Michigan,
University of Missouri and Wayne
State University. Since 1949 he has
been a supervisory teacher in so-
cial studies in the Detroit schools,
where he recently became a depart-
ment head. He has also taught He-
brew at the United Hebrew Schools,
Cong. Shaarey Zedek and Mumford
High School.
His Hebrew school administra-
tive experiences include principal
of Sholem Aleichem Instiute, and
educational director at Shaarey
Zedek and Cong. Beth Shalom, Oak
Park.
He is a member of the American
Philosophical Association, Ameri-
can Academy of Political and So-
cial Science, Philosophy of Educa-
tion Society, National Council for
Social Studies, Jewish Publications
Society, Sholem Aleichem Institute
and Directors Council, Religious
Schools of Metropolitan Detroit.

LONDON — Violinist Y e h u d i
Menuhin was given the freedom of
the city of Edinburgh, capital of
Scotland and site
of the famous
Edinburgh Music
Festival, in a
ceremony Tues-
day.
The honor was
conferred upon
the world-famous
Jewish virtuoso
by the lord pro-
vost in a cer e-
mony on the first
Menuhin
day of the 19th Festival.

Blair Kamin Wins
2 Golf Tourneys

Blair Kamin, 20, son of Mrs.
Louis E. Kamin, 3395 Cambridge,
and the late Dr. Kamin, is the
youngest golf champion in the his-
tory of Tam O'Shanter Golf and
Country Club. Within a week, he
won both the junior and senior
championships.
A business administration stu-
dent at Oakland Community Col-
lege, Pontiac, he scored 84 and 80
in the two-day, 18-hole junior
match, and then went on to capture
the senior trophy with a score of
78 and 84, also on 18 holes, last
Saturday and Sunday. His opponent
in the senior playoff was Allan
Rothberg, 24, son of the Victor
Rothbergs of Renfrew Rd. Roth-
berg is married and lives at La-
fayette Plaissance.
Kamin, one-time captain of the
Mumford golf team, has been play-
ing since age 15 and holds a num-
ber of trophies.
