Murder of 5 Israelis Again Disrupts Peace;
Syrian Attacks Trigger Need for Protection
(Continued from Page 1)
The Damascus radio, heard here,
reported that Syria has warned the
United Nations Security Council
that a threat to security and peace
had developed because of Israeli
"attacks." Dr. Hassan Muraywed,
the Syrian foreign minister, de-
clared in Damascus today that his
ministry had sent to the UN details
of the "aggression on the Syrian
border and against the site of ex-
ploitation of the Jordan tributaries
in particular." (At the United Na-
tions, however, it was said today
that, thus far, no complaint on
this incident has been received
from Syria.)

three Israelis have been held

They were handed over to the
Egyptians by the United Nations
Emergency Force officials.
The three are David Hanuka, 40;
his son, Shmuel, 13; and a neigh-
bor, Obed Meir, 23. They had gone
to search for supplies and water-
melons, and became lost near the
Erez border post. Three Arab
farmers beckoned them to ap-
proach and they left their truck
and started toward the farmers.
A routine UNEF patrol appeared
at that moment and the Arabs ran
away. The UN soldiers loaded the
three Israelis into their vehicle and
handed them over to Egyptian
authorities in Gaza. Israel asked
the United Nations officials to act

of Israel's most loved and respect-
ed public men, his death on July
7 brought moving tributes at a
hastily assembled joint mourning
session of the Israel Cabinet and
the World Zionist Executive.
Spokesmen on that occasion in-
cluded Kadish Luz, Speaker of
the Knesset, President Zalman
Shazar, Prime Minister Levi Esh-
kol and Dr. Nahum Goldmann,
president of the World Zionist
Organization. In addition to lead-
ers of the nation, his funeral was
attended by thousands of mourners
from every part of Israel.
The press and government dig-
nitaries lauded the statesman. The
New York Times referred to Sha-
rett as Israel's "firm, persuasive,
resourceful advocate before audi-
ences large and small, official and
unofficial," and the Times of Lon-
