Hadassah Convention Itinerary, Local Delegation Announced The Detroit Chapter of Hadassah will send a delegation to Hadas- sah's 51st national convention at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City Sunday-Wednesday. Mrs. Jack W. Dr. Plotnick Heads Center Division The Jewish Center announces the appointment. of Dr. Morton Plot- nick as director of the Center's hew educational services division. Dr. Plotnick has long been active in Bnai Brith, serving as program supervisor for the Michigan Re- gion for the past seven years, in- ternational presi dent of BB Young Adults in 1957-58 a n d representa- tive to the first World Jewish Youth Conference held in Jerula- lem in 1958. Both he and Mrs. Plot- nick served as Dr. Plotnick adult leaders for the BBYO Israel Institute in Israel in 1962. He has also served as vice president of Tucher Lodge. During Dr. Plotnick's under- graduate days he worked at the Center as a club leader and with the day camp. He received both his BA and MA degrees from Wayne State University and in 1964 obtained his PhD in adult and higher education from Mich- igan State University. Before joining the staff of the Center as a division director, Dr. Notnick taught in the Oak Park school system for six years. Dur- ing those years he authored several articles in the areas of education and volunteer communication which have been published in na- tional publications. Dr. Plotnick, 28, was born in Tel Aviv and came to the United States at age 1. He and his wife, Evelyn, are the parents of a 2-year- old daughter, Suzanne. Perlman, nation- al convention chairman, announced another highlight of the convention will be the presentation to Hadas- sah of a special citation from Liberia's President William V. S. Tubman in recognition of Hadas- sah's contributions to the develop- ment of that country's health serv- ices. * * * Hadassah Awards Grant in Honor. of Prof. A. M. Dishkin NEW YORK (JTA)—The first grant in Hadassah's five-year re- search and publications program has been made in honor of Prof. Alexander M. D u s h k i n, noted Israeli anti American edu- cator, on the occasion of his 75th birthday, it was an- nounced b y Mrs. Mort Mrs . Morti- mer Jacobson, national presi- dent of Hadas- sah. The $6,500 grant will be known as the Alexander M. Dushkin Fel- lowship. It was awarded to Dr. Sidney Dr. Dushkin Goldstein, chairman of the depart- ment of sociology and anthro- pology at Brown University, for a study of Jewish demography in the United States, which will in- dicate generational differences in the American Jewish community. The Hadassah program is being carried out in cooperation with the National Foundation for Jewish Culture to help strengthen Jewish identity among American Jews. Further tribute to Prof. Dush- kin, who heads the division of Jewish education in the diaspora at the Institute of Contemporary Jewry in Jerusalem, will be paid him at the' luncheon session of Hadassah's national convention this month at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Prof. Dushkin was a founder of the Jewish Education Committee of New York and from 1923-34 was executive superintendent of the Chicago Board of Jewish Educa- tion. He settled in Israel perman- ently in 1949 to become professor of educational administration at the Hebrew University of Jeru- salem. Tree-Planting Honors Schoichit Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. David Schoichit are planting 45 trees in honor of their 45th wedding anniversary, which they celebrated Thursday. - The Schoichits, who came to De- troit from Russia in 1922, have been active in organizational and communal activities, and have sup- ported numerous causes in behalf of Israel. They are dedicated JNF Blue-White boxholders and their box is among those yielding the largest and most substantial amounts of money in the U.S. The Schoichits live at 18989 Snowden, and have a daughter, a son and three grandchildren. Heading the more than 60 delegates from the 24 local chapters was Mrs. Alan Nathan, president of the BB Women's Council of Metropolitan Detroit. Detroit Lodge Chapter for the sixth consecutive year won the award for being the highest fund- raisers in the district, which in- cludes eight Midwestern states and three Canadian provinces. Mrs. Irving Isaacs, past presi- dent of the Einstein Chapter and treasurer of the Women's Council, was honored for the best program written and presented on BB phil- anthropies. Keiden Chapter re- ceived honorable mention for its chapter bulletin, Keiden Komment. Twenty-five year membership cards were given to 37 members of Pisgah Chapter, two members of Detroit Lodge Chapter and one member of Oak-Woods Chapter.
