Among the scholarship holders are a thirty-three-year-old father concluding an interrupted educa- tion in agricultural engineering, a 19-year-old "sabra" in his second year of studies in the department of physics, an about-to-be-married electrical engineering student and an army officer preparing for a career in nuclear energy research. The eight scholarship holders, born in such diverse places as Rus- sia, Baghdad and Tel Aviv, have written to the family of the late Mr. Kay expressing their thanks. To quote from two typical let- ters: "My scientific interest in the field of nuclear energy is accom- panied by the belief that new sources of energy might help us abolish poverty for a higher stan- dard of living for the human race. "I regard it my moral duty, be- side my personal thankfulness to you, to repay the present help I am enjoying, the moment I'll be financially settled, by supporting another student in need the same way you did it, helping him up to the fulfillment of his hopes." An article in the Parade Magazine section of the Detroit Free Press on June 6 contended that the "Uzi" machine guns "made in Is- rael" and purchased by West Ger- many had been sold by the Ger- mans to the Sudan and eventually found their way to Egypt. Dr. K.-Erich Rombach, acting German Consul in Detroit, this week informed The Jewish News that upon inquiry, after The Jew- ish News had contacted the De- troit German Consulate, he was in- formed by the German Federal Government in Bonn that the Pa- rade report is "incorrect." There is a categorical denial that the weapons purchased by Israel found their way to Egypt.
