Israelis to Play Soccer Game Here;
Promoter Seeks Co-Sponsor Group

An area promoter is getting the
ball rolling for a soccer game to
be held here in the fall between
his "Kickers Detroit" team and
the Hapoel sports association of
Petah Tikvah, Israel.
Willie Dewald announced that
the Israeli soccer team, which

played here nine years ago before
a crowd of 10,000, will include
Detroit on its itinerary of U.S.
c i t i e s, probably arriving here
Sept. 10 or 25.
Dewald proposes that a Jew-
ish organization join him in the
enterprise to give the Israeli
team a warm welcome and drum
up interest.
The Kickers Detroit team, which
is comprised of many nationalities,
has an enviable record for an
amateur group. The Petah Tikvah
association was Israel's football
(another name for soccer) cham-
pion for six years and held the
state cup in 1956 and '57. The
tourney will be played at the Uni-
versity of Detroit stadium.
Other cities on the H a p o el
itinerary are New York, Chicago,
Los Angeles, San Francisco and
Toronto.
For information . on the tourna-
ment and its co-sponsorship, call
Dewald, 756-1575.
