Lebanese Prelate Shuns
Jewish Girl First to Win
Arab Line on Declaration Case Under Quebec Law

Announcements

A prelate from the Middle East
disagreed Thursday with his Arab
Catholic colleagues who criticize
the Vatican Council declaration on
the Jews.
The Most Rev. Peter Jouad
Sfair, an archbishop of the Maro-
nite Rite of the Roman Catholic
Church, said here on a visit, he
believes the declaration is quite
"sufficient" and doesn't give too
much attention to the Jews.
The archbishop is a native of
Lebanon but lives in Rome, teach-
ing Muslim civil law at the Lateran
University and Hebrew at the
University of Propaganda Fide.

Embarrassment

By Harry Maxman
I could fathom the problems of the

ages,
The most complicated events bring
no dismay.
What surprises and confounds me, most
of all,
Why do I find myself lost in living but
a day?

The troubles of all the by-gone centuries,
The turmoil and tempests of man and
of time.
These I Understand, in minutiae
evaluation:
It's the here and now I can't grasp
or define.

Perhaps the here and now does not
baffle you,
The complexities do not find or leave
you dazed.
I do not envy you, for all your
confidence,
Who see life and results cooly and are
not amazed.

MONTRAEL — (JTA) — A
court case believed to be the first
of it kind here, accusing a firm of
violating the Quebec "Act Respect-
ing Discrimination in Employ-
ment," was won here by a Jewish
girl who charged that the firm had
refused her because she was Jew-
ish.
According to the plaintiff, the
girl was told, when she applied
for a job as a junior typist, that
the company did not hire Jews.
The firm was convicted and fined
