Announcement was made on June
10, at the Israel Bond dinner at the
Sheraton Cadillac Hotel which was
attended by more than 550 leaders
and workers in the local Bond
drives, that with the sale of more
than $250,000 worth of Bonds that
night the local purchases for the
current year already exceed
,
$1,600,000.
Charles G r o s b e r g, Detroit's
leading Israel Bond buyer, again
set the pace by purchasing
$75,000 w o r t h of Bonds. A
$50,000 purchase was made by
Tom Borman; Phillip and Max
Stollman bought $30,000 worth of
Bonds; and there were purchases
in amounts of $20,000, $15,000 and
$10,000, among the many that in-
cluded also the smaller pur-
chases down to $100.
Aryeh Manor, vice president of
Bank Leumi Lelsrael, here for a
brief visit from his home in Tel
Aviv, in the principal address of
the evening, described the progress
made in Israel, stated that "we
have long lost the count on the
number of industries we have in
Israel," and added "we are now
thinking in terms of missiles, jets
and supersonic accomplishments."
He expressed the view that the
move towards peace talks with
Arabs will soon materialize.
Punning about comparative fi-
nancial values, Manor said: "To
those who refer to 'friends at the
Chase National,' we say 'you have
mishpaha at Bank Leumi.' "

chasers or sellers of Bonds in
amounts of $100,000 or more—were

and closing prayers, and Mrs. Ber-
nard Pepper, who led in the sing-
ing of the national anthems, ac-

Ban on Red China
Hurts UN, Says Eban
The failure of the Unite d
Nations to solve the problem of
Chinese representation "robs the
UN of its crucial claim to univer-
sality," Abba Eban, Deputy Prime
Minister of Israel, declared in the
curent issue of Look Magazine. He
stated: "The member states must
make up their minds what they
want the UN to be — an exclusive
club for the like-minded and the
virtuous, or a mirror reflecting
the realities of power and opinion
as they are, in all their rich and
sometimes uncomfortable diversity.
"If the idea is to mirror an exist-
ing world," he added, "then is
should not be impossible to apply
this principle, in due time, both
to the facts as they are in the
Chinese mainland and on an inde-
pendent and separate Formosa."
