he personally developed a 10,000-

for several years. In 1929, he intro-
duced the first academic course in
Yiddish literature in the United
States at the Massachusetts Uni-
versity Extension. He wrote on Yid-
dish topics and literature in both
English and Yiddish.

HAIFA (JTA)—Alexander Gold-
berg, general director of chemicals
and phosphates, was unanimously
elected president of the Haifa In-
stitute of Technology, replacing
Gen. Yaacov Dori, who resigned
for reasons of health.
The new Technion president was
born in Vilna and came to Israel
in 1948, after study in London. He
has been managing director of the
chemical firm since that time. He
has also held the post of managing
director of the Negev Phosphates
Co. and was a member of the
board of the Dead Sea Works. He
has been chairman of the board
of governors of the Technion for
several years.

eration, is dead at 73. Father of
Alvin Regal, who was elected

president this year of the United
Jewish Federation, the elder Ro-
gal was also active in the National
Jewish Welfare Board and a mem-
ber of the board of the YIVI &
YWHA of Pittsburgh for almost
