Wayne State University's school
of medicine, has been selected a
`member of the Aesculpan Society,
an honor service organization for
the outstanding work he has done
for the university medical school.
This year he was elected presi-
dent of the Student American
Medical Association at Wayne,
and secretary-treasurer of the
William Beaumont historical soci-
ety. He was also appointed rep-
resentative to the athletic ad-
visory committee at the univers-
ity. He has been active in the
faculty lampooning each year, the
year book and two other medical
school publications, "The Bruit"
and the S.AM.A. newsletter. He is
also a member of Phi Delta Epsi-1
lon Fraternity. During his aca- I

has been awarded six scholarships

has presented $25,000 to the Unit-
ed Jewish Appeal.
Announcement of the gift by
Ford, chairman of the board of
Ford Motor Co., was made Thurs-
day night by Max M. Fisher, UJA
general chairman at a dinner of
the Automotive Division of the
UJA of Greater New York at the
New York Hilton.
Fisher flew to the meeting from
Detroit, where he is associated
with Ford in Detroit's United '
Fund. Fisher is president of the
United Fund, and Ford is a
founder.

At the seventh annual luncheon
meeting of the Jewish Historical
Society of Michigan, Dr. Irving I.
Edgar was re-elected president.
Other officers with him are Mrs.
Ettie Raphael, vice president; Jona-
than D. Hyams, treasurer, and
Mrs. Gerald Avrin, secretary.
Elected on the board of directors
were Rabbi Morris Adler, Charles
E. Feinberg, Rabbi Leon Fram,
Morris Garvett, Irwin I. Holzman,
Irving I. Katz, Louis LaMed, Prof.
Shlomo Marenoff, Mrs. Marshall

Rabbi Emanuel Applebaum, for-
mer president of the Society and
a past editor of its magazine, Michi-
gan Jewish History, was presented
with a tribute of appreciation citing
his many efforts in behalf of the
Society.

In presenting the check to
him earlier, Ford had told Fish-
er: "We're happy to continue
our participation in this impor-
tant effort."

Some 200 representatives of
manufacturers and distributors in
the New York area of automobiles
and automotive supplies and ac-
cessories were present to announce
a total of $150,000 in UJA contribu-
tions.
