Congress Group Cutting U.S. Aid
for Arab Refugees, Cites Progress Lag

WASHINGTON (JTA) — The
Foreign Affairs Committee of the
House of Representatives decided
to reduce this year by 5 per cent
the U.S. contribution to the
United Nations Relief and Works
Agency for Palestine Refugees,
and urged complete termination
of U.S. participation in that bud-
get as soon as feasible.
The cut was decided upon by
the committee in connection with
the administration's foreign aid
bill, which included $16,000,000
as the American contribution to
UNRWA's 1965--66 budget. The
committee reduced this figure by
$800,000.
In explaining its action, the
Foreign Affairs .Com.mittee re-
ported to the House:

Canadian Jewish Body
Adopts Stand on Racists

MONTREAL (JTA)—With more
than 800 delegates participating,
the Canadian Jewish Congress
ended its five-day plenary session
here by adopting a series of reso-
lutions dealing with racist mani-
festations in Canada, immigration,
support for Israel, and the situ-
ation of the Jews in the Soviet
Union. The plenary session, held
every three year s, re-elected
Michael Garber as president.
In its resolution dealing with
race hatred, the congress urged
the Canadian government to adopt
legislation which would incorpor-
ate "effective measures against
propagation of race hatred and
group libel." The CJC criticized
the Canadian Broadcasting Corp-
oration for "conducting inter-
views with Canadian and Ameri-
can neo-Nazis."
In a resolution on immigration,
the congress urged the govern-
ment to continue to give consider-
ation of representations "on be-
half of displaced and uprooted"
people by the CPC and the Jewish
Immigrant Aid Services.
Another resolution called on
Canadian Jewry to continue to aid
Israel "in every possible way."
