Catholic Scholar Says Pope Favors Vatican Declaration on Jews BUENOS AIRES (JTA) Pope Paul VI is "personally" in favor of the Ecumenical Council's dec- laration on relations with the Jews, exonerating the Jewish peo- ple of deicide, it was declared by the Rev. Giovanni Caprile, pro- fessor of Holy Scripture in Rome. He was given a reception here by the Latin American section of the World Jewish Congress. He took sharp issue with Bishop Luigi Maria Carli, of Segni, Italy, who had indicted the Jews anew of deicide in a recent magazine article. Rev. Caprile, who is di- rector of the International Center for the Study and Documentation of Jewish-Christian Affairs, at Mi- lan, also expressed the opinion that Pope Paul VI did not mean to counter the Ecumenical Coun- cil's declaration on Jewish rela- tions, when he delivered his re- cent Passion Sunday homily. Meanwhile, in San Francisco, a strongly worded editorial de- claring that "the Jews as a people are in no way responsible for the killing of Christ" was published in the current issue of the Moni- tor, official publication of the San Francisco Roman Catholic Arch- diocese. It stresses the fact that the session of the Ecumenical Council, last year, overwhelmingly voted that "Jews, neither at the time of Christ, nor subsequently, were in any sense collectively culp- able of the death of Christ." Jewish Publicists to Talk With Agency Employes PHILADELPHIA - Public rela- tions workers in the field of Jewish communal service will meet with workers in health, welfare, educa- tional and other community agen- cies for discussion of mutual in- terests and problems at the 67th annual National Conference of Jewish Communal Service, at the Sheraton Hotel, May 28-June 2, it was announced by Henry W. Levy of New York, president of the American Jewish Public Relations Society.
